Removing water pump question

Do I have to take off the intake elbow to remove the water pump? I have it almost free but the black metal piece that the adjustment for the alternator is mounted on is in the way. It seems that there in no way to get under the elbow to unbolt it. Is there a way around this? Also, If it take off the elbow do I have to replace the gasket between the elbow and the throttle body?

Also, how do I get the pulley to stop turning so I can put enough torque on the bolts to loosen them?

I know someone must've replaced their water pump and can help with a pointer or two! Thanks

Yes you have to take the alternator bracket loose at very least (off is better) There is an o-ring in the elbow to throttle body so you shouldn't have to replace it. You have to be careful when you seperate the water pump from the housing or you'll damage the gasket at the water pump housing to the motor and have to replace that. You can use a screw driver and place it between two of the bolts on the pulley while you loosen one of the others then move around the pulley till there all loose. Good luck. Jack
