You have to unbolt the evaporator and VERY carefully lift it out (pulling to the driver's side). This will require bending the hard A/C lines. This is certainly doable but you have to be careful not to kink or break the lines. Just move slowly and you'll be fine.

next time i have to take mine out im cutting the front section off of the AC condensor part of the duct. i have removed the ducting so many times that im beginning to draw weary of the lines snapping. im not throwing my AC away either and i dont need to spend money on another useless mod

I had mine cut out, its easy. basically grab a hack saw or dremel and cut it EXACTLY in half. When you put it back on, the ac canister will actually make a near perfect seal, you can put foam around the few air leaks you would have.
I have taken this thing out alot, it WELL worth it. That is one of the worst engineering crap designes I haver ever seen.

BTW, that part of the AC system is the receiver/dryer. The evaporator is the part under the dash .
