Removing Heating System - FD3S

Hello,
I was considering removing my heater core, and the heater hoses in the engine bay to clean things up a bit. I only drive the car on nice sunny days in the summer, spring, and fall. I can't remember the last time I used my defroster or heat for that matter.

I have already removed the Power Steering System, and the complete A/C System and it heped weight and cleaned things up alot in the engine bay. Has anyone done this before and have they succesfully benefited from it?

Used the search function but not to much pops up for 3rd gens.

I figure I need to remove the dash, any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks
RA

Easy. Just start removing the dash and it will seem straight forward. You will need to bung up the bulk head holes. Not that much weight in the heater system although every little bit helps, matrix weighs the most.

i wouldnt go to all that hassle to remove the heater matrix,,,,it would be easier and better to wear no clothes in car,,,,,,,,take your shoes off for better power to weight ratio

no no,,,,really ,,,heater matrix only weighs about 1 kg,,,,is nothing,,,

Maybe I can just remove the heater hoses in the engine bay and cap the heater core?

Yeah I agree.... removing the core will be a big pain.... I"d just cap off all hoses in the engine bay and cap off the core openings to prevent dirt and stuff from getting in there.

Unless the car is completely a track car don't do it. I removed the heater system on a 87 TII. The car would fog up in any type of weather that it wasn't hot. No airflow through the car makes it impossible to drive with the windows up.

For a street car there are no benefits. You just removed your heating system and you won't see much, if any difference under your hood.
