When you put a midpipe do you have to remove the whole air pump system or you can leave the air pump in the engine

 

You can leave the air pump there untill your ready to remove it. This is what im doing, I just pluged up the air line that was connected to the cat and it works fine.

 

You can just let it vent, plugging it up may affect other things in ACV.

 

You can also just electrically disconnect it, and use a different (shorter) belt to just run the alternator and water pump, only real advantage after you do that is weight loss, you dont need it anymore if you have a midpipe, it simplly pumps air into the main cat to increase emmisions effiecientcy.

I thought removing the air pump causes problems with your Idle?

can you just remove it and NO problems... clean up the engine bay, make some space and save weight? sounds great to me

 

the most insignificant function of the air pump is the supply to the midpipe,it also supplies air to the to exhaust port, if removed it will cause bad idle and wierd **** at low rpm.

Ont eh other hand, some guys haev removed it and had no problems, fo rme it alsmost blew my engine

I just bought a midpipe and I was going to remove my Air Pump. Should I? I thouht it was just there for the Cat and emissions. So how exactly do you install the midpipe and leave the air pump there? Is there some way to restrict it or stop the airflow to the now missing cat? Also I heard that I was just to remove the airpump and install a BOP for the ACV. If I do remove it what else do I have to do? Do I have to buy a smaller belt? Thanks.

 

What is BOP for the acv?? Lane_change

 

bop=block off plate. acv=air control value. the acv is the contraption attached to the intake manifold under the extension manifold.

Yes, the air pump, acv are there just for emissions. I don't see how it can affect idle since all the things it connects to are after the engine. Removing the air pump while still having a cat may damage the cat since our cars run rich at idle, and w/o the airpump putting air into the cat to match the extra fuel, the fuel is burned in the cat which can its insides melt.

 

Hey Dog, Removing your air pump really does NOTHING, it will save you some weight and makes the engine bay look better THATS IT, BUT!! if you do just get the mid pipe and want to gain a TINY bit of HP, they disconnect it and if your worried about the idle, you can get a small silencer for you air pump pipe from Trust, your idle will be fine and you wont hear that small knock noice. PIPE COSTS around $15.00 Just get the pulley kit by Greddy..

So if the air pump goes does the acv go with it ?

 

Without the air pump the acv does nothing so you can remove it and use a bop to cover the hole. You don't have to remove the acv though.
