Removal/tightening the side mirrors
I know this could be considered a newbish question.. I have searched and not found anything which specifies how to tighten down a loose side view mirror. When I took the door panels off I noticed there was a sheet fastened in place with that black goop which essentially blocking off the section of the door where the bolts would be.
Are there any tricks to getting the mirrors tight? Or do I pretty much just need to suck it up and deal with the fact that my mirrors will jiggle with every small bump and dip in the road..
Thanks guys, if anybody has any insight or how-to's on removing/securing the side mirrors I would greatly appreciate it.
Cheers,
Levi

No need to remove door trim and try from the inside.
From the outside, the mirror will swivel ~ 90 degrees to reveal the screws that attach it to the door. Just rotate the mirror about the base.

They swivel both ways - one way to get to one screw, the other to get to the second.
It's partly to swivel the mirrors in for storage so they don't get bumped/knocked off. This is a big deal in Japan with small places - some cars actually have power folding mirrors that fold in when you press a button.
BTW, you need a larger size phillips head screwdriver to tighten the screws - a smaller one could strip the screw out. One of the easiest fixes for the FD there is

RH side mirror vibration - not loose screws as above
When I tap on the mirror housing, or shut the RH door, something inside the mirror housing vibrates. It's not a tinny-sounding vibration, but more of a "purring" sound, like I woke up a large cat inside.
The mirror glass itself does not vibrate when I do this, nor does the glass appear to vibrate at any time, including when driving.
So, I have two questions:
Thanks for any insights on this.

- If I gently press on the mirror glass while tapping the housing, the vibration is somewhat reduced, but it still there.
- If I tap only the mirror glass, the vibration doesn't occur.
- If I gently press on the bottom of the mirror housing while tapping the top, the vibration is mostly gone.
So, I have two questions:
- What is vibrating inside the mirror housing?
- How did you fix this if it happened to you?
Thanks for any insights on this.

Dave, I don't have any noticeable sound from mine. I'm not sure what could cause a sound like that, unless there are springs in the mechanism.
Does the sound change if you aim the mirror in a different position, or if you rotate the housing into its stowed position?

Update
OK. Update:
I stated my symptoms somewhat wrong. I've come to the conclusion that is is the mirror glass vibrating on its mounting/adjuster mechanism. What is annoying is the noise, and you can't SEE the mirror vibrating. What's funny is that only the RH mirror does this, but not the left one.
Rotating the mirror housing to different positions makes no dfference. Adjusting the mirror to different positions makes little or no difference.
Since I posted this in a separate thread, here is the link to that:
