Refuses to go into 2nd when cold.

I've had this problem for a while. When the FD is cold, it sometimes refuses to go into second. Usually I would let it warm up, even then it would be notchy but it would go in easy. Whats causing it to refuse to go into second? Would changing the tranny oil help this? I know it would assist in the notchyness.

Thank you.

Try changing out the fluid to a Redline MT90 synthetic. if that doesn't help, then i am sure your synchro is on it's way out...mine did the same thing.

Does it grind or just refuses to go in? Any problems with the other gears?

First 3 things I'd check/replace would be the gear oil level, shifter bushing and re-bleed the clutch slave cylinder.

Mine was pretty notchy so when I changed the fluid (Redline MT-90) I added a quart of Redline lightweight shockproof trans fluid. What a difference. Good luck.

It just cruches maybe once or twice when its cold. The second attemp it goes in. Its only second that does this... every other gear is fine. When the car is warmed up, its alright, although it is notchy, its not that bad but still noticable.

When 2nd is crunchy, it helps to go from first into neutral, pause a split second, then solidly into 2nd.

My 2nd gear is also a little crunchy, probably a worn out synchro. I changed to a nice synthetic (royal purple) and it made a WORLD of difference.

My 2nd gear used to be a bit notchy, not crunchy but not easily shifted when the car is cold. I drained the tranny, filled it with Royal Purple and it made a huge difference.

Ha, that will make it worse! Try switching to Neo.
