Since you are not listed as the primary, the rate is much lower.
"What happens is your father (parents) are listed as the primary driver and you are listed as a secondary driver on the car.
Since you are not listed as the primary, the rate is much lower."
But him being the primary driver he would have to pay insurance on the car to would he not.

Confused if something were to happen it would be on both your records, i.e. an accident. The bill will come to your fathers name. Do what I do, give the money to my pops so he can add it to the bill. Not hard at all. Ohh and I work for insurance.
im with usaa, im 21, have a flawless record, and i pay 2600 a year. that is the best i have found. man, that number makes me sick just looking at it. think of the mods that could be done if you didnt have to pay so much. damn, damn, damn.

Ill let you in on a little secret. The reason insurance is really high on the FD is the percentage rate of claims. Did a little research and of all the companys in my city the average claim rate was 68%. What this means is that 68% of the FD's they insure(remember just becasue I said in my city, they could insure people from all over the U.S.) are having claims filed. Some go as high as 80% to as low as 59%. Thats a very high claim rate. Thats why only about 50% of insurance companys will insure RX7's as a whole. One bad apple ruins the bunch I guess. So if your male under 25, beg your parents to have it under their insurance plan. Thats the only way you are going to have normal payments.

Just call up your insurance company and tell them you are thinking of buying a '93-95 RX-7. Ask them to work you up an insurance quote of you being the primary driver, or your father being the primary with you being a secondary driver.
Insurance quotes are free, just ask them...
rotorbrain: I'm basically setup the same way you are: I'm with USAA, I'm 21 (or I will be in a week
), absolutely no bad record (not even a parking ticket), and I'm currently paying about 1800 a year. I'm wondering why the huge difference??? Is it just because of us living in two different areas (I'm in colorado)?
I hate insurance, its too damn confusing and results in a lot of mod-money down the drain...

I am going from a 2002 jeep sport to a 94 rx7, and ive had a auto accident in the past 4 months. My insurance will sky rocket.
Insurance is also based on the color of the car if you did not know. I believe it goes, red, black and yellow are most expensive. THats why when you call to switch the insurance info on the car, they ask for the color and such.
It could also be a myth, who the hell knows.

that is VERY strange!!!!! how long have you been with them? ive got about 2-3 years now. tell me if your insurance goes down when you turn 21. it did for my brother and hes had a wreck. mine didnt get messed with at all. im gonna call them!!!!!!
I recently got a HUGE loan with them (one of the ways I was able to afford the FD). And I've been told that credit history also goes into the calculations. I dunno, just an idea.
But seriously, call them up and ask them WTF is going on.

.I'm paying a little under 1200 a month, but that's with my Mom as the primary driver. And she's never even been behind the wheel

. Nah, I'm joking, but if you get insurance under your own name, expect to pay at least $4000 a year for it. Have fun
