reducing boost in snow

i have a question....im a noob so bear with me please

im thinking of getting an rx7.....my friend has one and hasnt tried this but.....if i was to reduce the boost to say....5 or 6 psi...in the winter when it snows trmendous amounts where i live, would it help in handling the car even though it is still RWD?....i only want to get this car if this would work becuase it will be my only car and i will eventually have to drive it in the snow....

if that doesnt work im just gonna buy an r-33 gtr skyline...but i would like to save 15k

thanks guys

Don't drive nice cars in the snow. Not even an AWD R33 GTR.

The stock wastegate will only go as low as 7 PSI (unless something else is broken).

The trick to driving the car in bad weather (or any RWD car for that matter) is your tires. You can't put summer high performance tires on the car and expect to have any traction in the winter.

Put some good all weather tires on it and train your right foot; that will allow you to drive in the winter (although I still don't recommend it).

i remember reading the thread of the poor soul who wrecked his FD in the snow, that guy walked funny for a few days after the guys on this forum got done with him.

The general agreement is not to drive this car nasty weather. You could always put a set of tires suited for such conditions like Mahjik said. But if it was me i wouldn't drive it in such a situation...

Buy a second car and park your 7. You should never drive it in the snow.

Just because something is AWD, it doesn't mean it's ready to tackle anything thrown at it.

Find a different car and save yourself the trouble/us the pictures.

i understand that it cant tackle anything thrown at it but doesnt AWD essentially mean that itll handle better than RWD, and FWD...hands down?...i mean obv i wont be able to rip at 120mph in the snow in an AWD lol....but as long as it gets me from pt A to B safely...ill be cool with it

oh yeah...and no matter what car i get...i dont plan to put on summer tires....id obv put on winter tires...not even all year tires

Snow and ANY amount of boost will mess you and your car up fast. Don't drive an FD in the snow.

The cars you are mentioning are simply too nice to take out in bad weather.

And AWD isn't what its cracked up to be. I had the misfortune of getting stuck in the snow in my modded VR4. It had major issues getting traction. The rear wheels simply would not hook up and the car strugged to make it up a hill in my driveway.

If you want one of these cars be sure to get a bad weater/daily driver to accompany it.

not to mention all the nasty salt and sand that they put on the road when it ices and snows....... that stuff is not too friendly to the paint...and promotes rust

idrive mine in the snow! It makes for interesting rides . Just have to be careful, and dont rev past 3500. I do agree that you should park the car if you can and get a honda accord to drive in the winter

Good lucking getting an R33 thats legal to drive for less than $30,000. Also be aware that currently you can only import 1995 R33's because of OBDII issues, although I only know about this with Motorex, not sure about RB Motoring. Motorex has a couple 95 R33's for sale right now, $50,000. If you can only afford to own one car I don't think you should be buying an R33.

RB motoring = motoRX. i'm almost positive it's the same company. anyway, all legal skylines in the country go through motoRX.

well this is my first post on this forum, i've been reading it for about the last 4 months and until now have not felt that i was versed well enough with the fd to post. as far as i'm concerned tho the fd is not a car that should be driven in anything but the sun.. take the extra 15k u were willing to put towards an r33 and buy a 1k winter honda.

rbmotoring and motorx are two diff companies....i know for a fact....and there are plenty of ways to legalize a skyline besides going thorugh motorex or rbmotoring....

also.....on the topic of not being able to get one....i can get one for about 30k

www.evolutionimports.com
( you're welcome to evo imports for the promotion haha)

they import skylines ( rex's too )....but at good prices so.....its possible

oh jesus we've been over this **** so many times on the forum. the only legalizer of street skylines in the US is motoRX, other companies can import them all they want but if you want it legalized it has to go to motoRX. they are the only ones who crash tested the cars with their mods to meet fed regulations, thus, they are the only ones.

believe whatever you want.

heh well since i grew up in the northen part of sweden, just a little bit south of the artic circle, i think its not problem to drive the FD in the winter.

But then again i would still recomend to buy a old crappy volvo 240 as winter car. You can have more fun in that car on snow then in a FD. In the FD you must take extreme caution and be on lookout for others the cant handle the snow, while in the volvo you just have Phun and let others worrie about thier cars.

Why volvo 240? well its a traktor on wheels(ie goes on for ever, just like a damn traktor) , cost almost nothing, and very cheap repairs.

Ooh and for any Phun winter cars its RWD with welded diff

Have fun losing your money to one of these scam jobs. There are many companys out there who say they can legalize these cars when the fact is they can't. Are you really going to send $30,000 to a company that only leaves you a post office box as an address? There are no 1996+ skylines being imported into the USA right now because nissan never made OBDII compliant ECU's for them, but Motorex supposedly will have it taken care of by this fall. RB Motoring is a legal RI (registered importer) and is a legit operation. I believe Nocab72 bought his GTR-33 and had it legalized by them. Total process took 10 months.

if you can spend 30k for a GTR(50k for a "legal" GTR) it won't kill you to buy something that you can drive through snow
