Unhappy redline

Was driving my car and for some reason was distracted and failed to engage 3rd gear when I switched and the RPM reved right to about 8000 in neutral. How much does something like this hurt the car and how will I be able to know? Since I bought the car I've heard really faint bubbling sounds that dont sound exactly like liquid. Any idaes?

I don't think there is a day that goes by that I DON'T bounce off the rev-limiter.

I really wouldn't worry.

shouldn't be a problem if it was only for a sec, and that this is not a common occurance.

Rev limiters are there for a reason. So you don't have to worry about harming your engine.

Im still waiting for the shot of TTT's overrev to 10k.

nillviod- You did your engine a favor. people say its good to redline it once a week (or so) to clear the carbon deposits that can build up and cause carbon deposits. Next time (when safe) try it in 3rd gear.
OH- and hold on.

Whaa? The "buzzer" kicks in at 8k (aka: the feeble beeper) and then there's fuel (or spark) cut at something like 8500 - at least that's the experience in my FD. Unless you have a modded ECU or something like a Power FC, then there's most definately a rev limiter.

Simon.

The bubbling you hear is coolant.

When your car is COOL. Fill up your coolant to the top. Burp it first though, by squeezing your radiator hose lightly to make sure the bubbles are all out. This will eliminate the gurgling sound.

Since I just got mine back from KDR I was playing on I-70W. I down shifted to third, and by the time I looked at the tack it was 8K. So I shifted to fourth, backfired like a *****, and watched a fireball shoot out of my car's ***. I checked my PFC to see exatcly when I shifted-8081 rpm's. I also now have quite a bit of discoloration on my bumper. It's painted in a year anyway. I love this car!

Once a week is what I read, but I do it every time I drive the car- atleast once. Its hard not to! Revs dont hurt this motor- overboosting, overheating and running lean do.

Wrong.

The buzzer goes off at 7500 rpm. Redline is at 8k rpm. Rev limiter kicks in at 8300 rpm. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe the stock ecu enacts a fuel-cut to limit revs. It doesn't feel or sound like an ignition retard like the PFC does.

I think revs DO hurt this engine also. I read somewhere that bearings on the eccentric shaft can get damaged by revving past 8.5k

Ok well I get fuel cut at 8000RPM and I know its definately not overboost since I've only been running on the primary turbo (bad TCA). Also, my rev buzzer doesnt buzz anymore. The whole car completely chokes at redline.

There's no rev limiter in and FD and redlining is a very good thing. Just watch your coolant temps, oil pressure light, and boost and drive the car for atleast 2-5 minutes under 3000rpm before shutting it off after redlining.

NOTE: If you've been babying your car dont just run out and start redlining. Break it in slowly like over a few days to weeks. If you have carbon build up you dont want to go redlining your car and have chunks of carbon flying around in the rotor housings or exhaust turbines of the turbos.
