Recommendations for shipping engine???

Probably not the right forum for this Q, but not sure which is... for that matter, who has more experience shipping engine blocks across the country than us long suffering 3rd Gen owners???

The last bare block I shipped cross-country only cost ~$85... unfortunately, I can't remember who I used.

With cost as a major consideration....recommendations???

Yeah it's really tickin me off that I can't remember...it was ~4yrs ago. I thought it was $85...but in any event I know it wasn't more than $105.

Come on fellas...let's get some input here. I would venture to say that this group has shipped thousands of engines. Gotta be some data points to gather...

With Gas prices the way they are that is out of the question. Try Americanfrieght.com they have good rates by diffrent companys.

thanx for the input. I'll compile quotes from all those mentioned in this thread and post the results. With any luck there will be a decidedly low cost provider.

Do as much as you can to save costs - go get a pallet, wrap the motor, strap it VERY securely to the pallet, and see if you can drop the palletized motor off at the freight line's depot. If the person on the other end can either pick it up at the depot or have it shipped to somewhere that routinely gets truck freight, you can save a lot there too. Having it shipped to a house will cost quite a bit extra.

Last job I had was at an industrial supply company - had a full loading dock, forklift, load levelers, etc. VERY nice to get engines and crap shipped in .

How much does the engine weigh? Greyhound Parcel Service is really cheap. I think that my bf paid $85 to get a Acura B-series block from Boston to San Francisco. Also while you're at the counter, ask about any shipping specials they have going on.

The reason Greyhound is so cheap is that the parcel is being dropped off at one of their terminals and at the other end, they call up the addressee and they have to pick it up at the bus terminal nearest them. It's not a door to door service.

When using any freight service, the cheapest rates are when the addressee picks it up from their terminal. It costs extra to have it delivered directly to their work or home address.

Try www.freightquote.com they will give you quotes from several different carriers at one time so that you can compare. Important info that you need is that it is class 85 and it weighs roughly 200 lbs for a shortblock.

We ship engines all over the US on a weekly basis, all the carriers have imposed pretty hefty fuel surcharges. Unless the engine is shipping to a neighboring state or within your state it is going to cost more than $85. For example the last one we shipped to MA was around $135 to a business address with no liftgate required.
