... that's because it's got no bling.

No one talks about it because it is not the latest and greatest thing. In addition, some don't like the integrated duct that the PFS IC shares with the PFS intake. But honestly I bought it: for its ease of install so I could do it myself, so I didn't have to move/minimize the battery, and so I didn't need a Greddy elbow. On the plus side, it has a good volume, low pressure drop, and it has a long history of proven use by others before me. For a moderately modified sequential twin (99) turbo setup like my car, it was fine and it wasn't necessary to go to the next level up in expense for higher charge cooling efficiency.

See www.scuderiaciriani.com for more info; Steve has all the specs for th popular IC's for comparison's sake.

p.s. I'm not even going to get into the whole FMIC v. SMIC debate, but that was a factor to me as I'm into road racing, not drag racing. (see the sig = my favorite F1 driver, the Scottish underdog)

Where do the 2 Pettit Intakes fit in? I was curious how the "large" (Coolcharge 3) stacks up against the rest.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Crooked Willow intercoolers. I've heard very little, but what about them? Thanks.

Cool charge 3 is an unauthorized knock off (copy) of the ASP Large IC. M2 is currently the only legit manufacturer and distrib of the two ASP IC's.

CWR products are sorta like a singing dog:

First, you have to find one, THEN you can asses wether or not you like how he sings.

Thanks, by large do you mean what they call the "race" IC? Is there a known quality difference between the ASP and the "knock off"?

Have any of the road racers considered Chuck Huang's HMIC as an alternative to ASP's Large IC?

http://www.rotaryextreme.com/rehmic.html

The neat part is you can use the HMIC with an Anfin Y-pipe an M2 airbox...

ttb, let me know what you think of the Greddy SMIC...

I've been looking at my budget, and it's getting tight with new J-spec twins, new ported KD Rotary motor, A'pexi PFC and commander, Volk CE28Ns, new Hoosiers...

For my purposes of running no more than 10 psi, I don't see the reason of running a huge IC core like ASP/M2 med/large or Chuck Huang's HMIC setup?

Anyhow, I'm especially interested in how the Greddy SMIC works with the stock IC ducting. In my case I have the RB intake duct hooked up to the stock IC ducting, and wasn't sure if the RB duct would interfere with the Greddy SMIC?

Give me a full report!

Pipes: I have both the older straight pipe (now cut and used with my single turbo setup) and the curved pipe that clears the air pump better (which it does pretty nicely).

Installation: The ASP/M2 Medium IC is quite easy to install. Just pull out the old IC and put the new one in. You don't have to do anything special. It has to be easier than any of the FMICs, and it fit my car just fine. I did play with the Y-pipe to IC pipe coupler a few times, but once you get it situated right it stays in place. I did have some minor contact with my shock tower bar, but it wasn't a big deal. I put a little piece of rubber on the underside of the shock tower bar and that was that.

My current installation with the single turbo has the pipe hitting the hood a bit, but it was my custom piping job that led to the problem. The pipe never hit the hood with the stock turbos.

The things I like about the Medium are the easy install, large core (11.5x12x3.5" or so) with lots of internal flow area, the very nice duct, and the fact that it comes with good pipes, couplers, and clamps. You have to get the GReddy elbow, but it is very complete otherwise. In my opinion, it is more complete than most kits in the sense that it comes with a quality duct, clamps, etc.

My peak water temp is about 182F in CA for fast street driving or sitting in highway traffic. Usually it is in the 170-178F range. It does get hotter at higher altitudes on mountain drives, but my peak temp stored in my gauage right now is 197F. That is without using the fan, too. The car gets hot on the track (road racing; not the drag strip), but I think it would be worse with a FMIC.

As far as SMICs go, no one has made anything better in the >3.5 years since I installed mine.
