Rebuilt Engine, Any Builder Specific Marks?

First, I apologize if this was posted to the wrong section.

Last week I bought a 13B REW long block that was rebuilt somewhere around 2 years ago. The seller was the second owner, the first owner had it rebuilt but sold the car before reinstalling the engine. The seller did not know who had rebuilt it, just that it was done in Chicago, wasn't ported or anything other than stock, and the builder used Atkins apex seals.

The seller had 2 FCs and seemed to know his stuff, he said he kept the engine internals oiled and turned it over often. The housings looked fine through the exhaust ports, the apex seals all felt good and springy, it's obviously been apart recently, and the price was right so I bought it.

After stripping it down I saw some orange paint marks between the housings/irons and next to a few bolt heads, and a few 'X' marks punched on top of the rear housing. Does anyone know if these marks look similar to ones done by a specific builder?

I know it doesn't really matter at this point but I would still like to know if possible. Also, if there is anything I can check to gauge if rebuild was done properly, I would appreciate the help.

Thanks guys.

The paint marks look to be there so if you took the motor apart, swapped in bad rotor housings, and took it back they would know it's been apart. That looks like a warranty kind of thing.

Besides that nothing rings a bell. Most likely some small rotary shop up in that area.

I do like the nice, clean, fresh engine with the nasty rusty turbo oil feed line bolted on. And the old OMP lines. Hope you have a chance to remedy that before installing

I agree with Dale on the paint marks it looks like an assembly/disassembly warranty mark, maybe shoot a p.m. to Bansai racing they are in Indiana, Chip is in Michigan, Elite Rotary Shop is in Illinois, to clarify I'm not saying any of these three shops did the work but they may have come across this in the past, there are several members in the Chicago area as well maybe post this in the Midwest section see if you get any hits? I have a brand-new set of OEM oil lines for sale if you need them

In 20+ years of working on these cars and building engine, I have not seen orange paint marks like that. They are certainly for identifying disassembly. Probably a very low volume builder/DIYer.

Thank you all. That makes sense for the paint marks, I didn't think about it like that.

It's going to get stripped down further, cleaned up, and put back together with cleaned up/new parts. I'm debating now on whether to get a powdercoating kit to try out on the smaller bits.
