GA rebuilding FD CD players...

As a result of my many hours of efforts to repair my stock FD radio stack, I am likely going to have a few of these players available soon.

I have access to the parts and have registered to get them wholesale.

If there is a demand for these CD players, I will rebuild them with some speed and regularity very likely for less than you might think.

I welcome feedback on this....

I believe you have to have a vendor account to offer services like this. You can do that on the "other" forum for free but not here.

Wow, I didn't know some FDs 1993-1995 had CD players in it!

Supernaut, no, I do not need a "dealer account" or a "vendor account" to do "this" here.

I'm not offering prices, I'm not offering anything other than the opportunity for people to comment on whether or not I should start this service.

Should I ever start this service, I will post it in the other places that those kind of things are supposed to be advertised.

I merely want opinions on what folks think.

Are you open to working on cassette decks also?

I want to keep it O.G. & listen to all my old mixed tapes.

I hope you're right. I've seen people spoken to for posting even less than you have. GL to you.

My question is.. What it be possible to have a "high output" version of the early cd players that came in these cars?

I hate having an aftermarket deck in my car, but I do like post 90's speakers lol.

Either way, I'm sure some people would be interested but how many is the question.

I know you're not here to talk about pricing, but if you could "recondition" a factory CD player by having it be fully functioning, cleaned up, and maybe even freshen the buttons to not look as worn I think that'd be a nice service to offer. Good used CD players seem to go for between $50-$100 depending on the condition (I bought one this year), so I'd think that if you could stay in that price range for a rebuilt/refreshed unit that people would take you up on it.

You also have to remember that you're also competing with the used market for headunits that were on other Mazdas as well. They are pretty cheap and compatible with our FDs. Unless this service is really cheap, even reconditioning to new doesn't make sense IMO when you can just buy a new aftermarket unit for pretty damn cheap. I was going to buy a newer Mazda/Bose headunit from ebay because it would be an easier install but for just a little more, you can get a budget headunit and have many more newer features and a better looking interior. I think people who want to retain the OEM interior look may find this interesting but that's about it.

I was just pointing out that I'm his market as I have zero desire to replace the factory looking head unit with anything else. If his service was just to fix my broken cd player I would pay around $50 for it. If he freshened up the look/feel of it I would probably pay closer to $100.

You are correct that many other people are more content with using modern radios instead.

What kind of problem do you repair? The speakers in my car start/stop randomly when using the radio or the cd player. I think it may be the head unit.

I think it would be a great service! I recently bought a 93 and the CD player was DOA. I want to keep the stock look so I sent it to Southern Electronics in Richmond VA and they had to rebuild it. It cost a good bit of money. BTW had them repair my AM/FM radio/tape deck as well and it also cost alot. The tuner was no longer available for the radio so they basically had to build a new one for me. Both units work great now! If I could have gotten it done cheaper by a forum member I probably would have done that. Maybe you could have people send you their CD players and charge for the repair service.
