rebuild project stalled....someone kick me in the butt!
Well....the title pretty much says it all. After blowing the engine in JANUARY I worked fairly hard at getting the engine out and off to be rebuilt. But I find that for a variety of reasons I have not done anything for several weeks now. Part of it is I HATE working on tedious things when it is hot outside, I lose my patience way too easily and get frustrated, etc. And with the warmer weather it seems there are a thousand things to do around the house and outside in the yard that take a lot of my free time. But most oddly is I have this near apathy for continuing the project. Which is totally unlike me. I usually go *****-to-the-wall on anything I do, I simply get on the project and get it done....I hate lingering, open items. Seeing the car on jackstands ought to be driving me insane, but as time goes on I find it bothers me less and less. Oh, occasionally I get all fired up and will go out and tinker around a bit more, like recently when I went out with my friend in his 500 hp '97 Camaro.....THAT got me all revved up and wanting to get my car fixed.
But it didn't last.
Sigh.....

Yeah, I'm probably the last one who should be giving you advice, but you should identify small projects, things you can do in a few hours each, and make a checklist. Little steps add up to big ones, especially when the project is large and tedious. The only way I'm able to force myself to do anything on my car at all is to pick something small and just walk away from it when I'm tired or frustrated. Then again, I haven't done anything on my car since I machined a billet bracket for my FPR a couple weeks ago. It only took 5 hours.

I feel the same way as you do
Every time I see that silver GT2 drive around I get really motivated to get on the project. Just waiting on those damn engines from Mazdafirst. Then we are off to the races...so to speak.

Reminds me of this pic my dear old great-Uncle Wolfgang took at Dachau......
The interpretation is "work will set you free".

I do exactly what jimlab said. I go outside and pick something easy as **** and do it and then finish it right away before I forget how it was supposed to be. Whats really holding me up is all of the custom stuff Im doing in the engine bay and the fact that Im not following any procedures for the single turbo etc. Also, my friend is doing a lot of welding for me and he is slow slow slow I want to kick him in the head sometimes. Oh yeah and another friend is building my engine its been months. If you are doing a basic engine swap and nothing different than before than just get on it man its easy and yur lucky!!!

Try this, I helped for me.
Close the hood. Take it off the blocks. Take all the junk off the roof and hatch. Push it into the sunlight. Wash and wax it.
Then just sit in it. Grab the steering wheel. Work the pedals and shifter.
Pretty soon you'll be having thoughts like "God, I got to get this running again. It'll be so much fun to drive this again. I NEED to get this thing running again."
After that, the work won't seem so overwhelming.
It worked for me.
