rebuild and coolant question

i just recently had my engine rebuilt with upgrade coolant seals and with 3mm apex seals. my question is i have broke it in now with about 1,300 miles and went to change the oil and check the fluids the next morning. when i checked the coolant filler neck it was at the bottom so i checked the ast and it was half full. then i checked the resovor and it was alittle past full. my question is should a new motor make the coolant level go down that much. it shoots alittle tiny white smoke on 1st start up but nothing like before i had it built and it smells like gas. the car is running rich also. any help would be greatly apperciated. thanks again
nate

The cooling system may not have been fully burped after the new engine was installed. Just top off the filler neck. I don't think it's anything to worry about... unless you need to top off every week.

If it can wait until Tuesday, just give Rick a call. You may just need to burp the system a bit more and add a bit more coolant. Did you have all the coolant hoses replaced during the rebuild?

You know what!! im havving the same thing with my newly rebuilt engine, water is getting empty fast, the add coolant light is always on and the smoke when i start the engine in the morning.

Lastly, i found my car doing some leek and i couldnt know from where until it overheat with me twice and i stopeed immediatley and i saw a hose evaporiting air from a hole that have been made ther by i heat i guess.

Now my car is in the worksop for 3 days trying to find a hose to replace my worn one....
