I noticed my FD running low 11volts the other day, so I checked my fuses/relays, my grounds and my battery. What else should I check, I'm not running anything that requires a large electronic load, just 3 aftermarket gauges. Any ideas? Thanks.

check the main charge wire to the alternator, if it's tight and the main fuse is ok then your alternator is likely dead.

 

Sounds like your alt isn't generating any voltage.

edit: dah! karack beat me

 

take a muliti-meter to the main post on the alternator. if you are getting 13-14 volts its probably corrosion if not its more than likely your alternator. A wire should also be getting 12 volts at the plug once running.

 

Don't know what the two wires are called but the one you tighten down with the nut was loose, so its running in the mid 13 voltage now.

 

that's the charge wire, it runs directly to the battery with a 100amp main fuse in the fuse panel between.

 

for what its worth my cars "charge" light would come on at idle for like a year until the alt just died (charge light all the time + really hot alt). So i got a used one from fritz and things were back to normal.

Another quick question, my parking brake light stays on, but will eventually go off, what could be wrong with the sensor?

 

Is the light dim on the dash (as well as maybe a few others)? If so, that's the sign of an alternator problem.

 

No its the only one on and then it goes off after awhile.
