rear wiper?

ill never understand why mazda decided to make a rear wiper for the FD. it's totally unnecessary especially for the FD. If i had one, i would have taken it out a long time ago.

I've daily driven mine through two San Francisco winters (ie, a lot of rain) and never once wished for a wiper on the hatch. Due to the angle of the glass, a little Rain-X works wonders.
About the only time I would wish for a wiper is in the mornings when there is dew on the glass, but I have to wipe off my side windows and mirrors by hand anyway, so a quick swipe down the rear glass is no big deal.

I have a touring, so I have a rear wiper. I've never refilled the washer fluid for the rear wiper (and that's in 5 or so years of ownership) and never really used just the wiper itself. As rynberg said, it's really only useful for getting dew off from when the car has been sitting. Once moving, it's not real useful.
However, I won't remove it just in case I decide to sell my car.

Someone was nice enough to rip off my rear wiper a few months ago when I was eating dinner at chillis but I actually didnt notice for a week. So My friend brought over some paint that was close to the vintage red and we filled the hole and painted over top the small hole.
Due to the glass and its angle, with some rainx it will just slide right off ina splic second and you can see fine.

Ive been wanting to remove mine. How do you get it off? I took the two screws out that hold it in place. But, how do you get it out of the hatch. I tried to pull it apart, no such luck.

The "plug" came from the section with all the little drawers with screws/nots/orings/washers etc. They have a bunch of sizes, and are white.
To get the wiper off, not only must you remove the three bolts that hold the motor on the bottom of the hatch, you have to remove the nut on the center of the wiper (pop the cap on top of the arm to see it), and seperate the two halves... its in the shop manual.

with the big rear pillars on an FD already making rear view a problem they probably decided a wiper was needed on the the regular models, sports models like the R and R2 didn't get wipers
mazda america must have decided much the same thing

I love my rear wiper just because my FD is a daily beater, and occasionally here in SoCal we get some rain. It normally slides off on it's own, but when you sit in traffic.....

don't race, don't need to
From the great north west, I have one and I'm damn glad I do! That way I can see the ******* SUV's grow larger in my rear view in the rain while the stupid blonde woman is screaming at her kids in the back seat and looking back there for somthing to swat instead of at least pretending to imitate driving!

I'd leave the rear spray nossel of the wiper so that I can **** off a-holes that are tailgating me. Maybe even turn the nossel around to shoot the ******* right in the windshield and take OFF!
