Rear transmission seal.

Hello I've started on my engine build up project and I was removing the tranny when I found out I need a new rear seal where the drive shaft goes in. So I looked online and found out that advance auto has it Sweet! I needed a few other items so I head over there and when the guy brings the box back I knew there was a problem. The box was the size of a condom package (non magnum) and the seal was about the same size. So my question is has anyone replaced theirs recently and where did you get it from and about how much did it cost because the advance one was about ten bucks? Thanks for the help.

Get a MAZDA seal. It's probably not much more than $10. Malloy Mazda would be a good source...especially if you need any other OEM parts. Or just your local dealer.

buy OEM that way you KNOW its the seal you need.

plus, on most small parts Ray@Malloy can more than likely get it to your door within 2-3 days, especially if you live in florida

Last time I called Ray he was out of them but hopefully he'll have some this time I'll call him tomorrow. I need some other parts from him so it will be a efficient call.

You should probably replace your rear stationary gear o-ring while your're in there. If that is the source of the leak then a new rear transmission seal isn't going to help much. If the rear stationary gear o-ring is as old as your rear transmission seal then it is probably as hard as rock and leaking as well. If you do replace that o-ring then make sure you're at TDC before pulling the rear stationary gear and don't turn the main shaft. Otherwise you run the risk of dislocating the rear rotor and then you're properly screwed. Definitely spend a few more dollars and get OEM.
