Rear Sway Bar Endlink Issue

I'm finally wrapping up a long standing FD project car. When purchased, it came with no sway bar endlinks, which is odd, for sure.

I ordered up a new pair, straight from Mazda, but can't seem to get them mounted. Everything lines up properly, endlink, upper A arm, etc, however the bolt will not go through, the arm. It's too thick. It fits through the shock just fine, but there is a bushing in the way, on the A arm.

1. Is the bushing supposed to be there?
2. Is there a difference between the endlinks or upper a arm between base/r1/93-95? Or is the bushing diameter different between the years?

I recently swapped a 93 rear sway bar onto my 94 FD. I had no fitment issues of any kind. Perhaps Mazda sent you the wrong bolts. I don't think those bolts are anything special. Your local hardware store should have something that will work.

If the bolt that was in there before was the correct size and fit then the new endlinks should fit as well.

The stock bolts are part of the endlink so they are "special", but they're not tapered or anything.

It's the bolt/threaded portion of of the endlink that's the problem. Sorry for the confusion.

It wasn't, it was just some random bolt. Much narrower than the one on the endlink.

Can you post pictures of the problem area and the old and new end links?

There wasn't old links to compare it against, unfortunately. If there were old ones it'd be a cinch to just look at the diameter of the link.

I suppose I can take pics, but it'll be a while.

Basically the bushing that is in there is making the hole way too narrow for the endlink to pass through.
