Rear Seats for the FD...

ok well, i am having a baby soon and my GF is telling me to sell my beloved 7 because there are no backseats for the baby... i know there can be seats put back in there, but i was wondering if a baby carseat would be a perfect fit, or is it too dangerous?? i kno people that have back seats usually get flamed for having one, but in my case its something i need...

does anyone have any pics of backseats in an FD, or have experience with having them??

Sean...

There isn't much room back there. And the baby seat wouldn't fit right in the caved in rear seats. Plus the front seat will have to moved all th eway up. Personally, I wouldn't do it. The baby seat will sit awkward and its way too risky.

the baby doesn't go in the back seat, the girl goes in the back seat. Problem solved. I wouldnt trust a baby seat in the back seat. Most people here in Japan with 2 door sports cars with back seats put the baby seat in the front seat. I believe that is also where the babyseat manufacturers recomend putting the seat. So if you can convince your wife to sit in the back (most likely sideways since there is not much room) then you should be OK! Also you wife should have more leg space since the baby does not need any leg room up front.

I agree with Dan H, I have them in my car, but the angle that the seat caves in is just too sharp for the baby seat and it wouldn't fit it, if anyone sits back there there knees are at the same level as there chest. Here's a pic of what the seats look like in the car.

well, i already have a 02 corolla as my daily beater, but the only problem is, is when i am at work i use the corolla and i work long hours, which means shes stuck at home with the baby... so she keeps telling me to sell the 7 and get another family car... i dunno, but i really dont want to sell the car...

Sell 7, buy EVO. Or, put some mounting points in the hatch, and strap down the car seat. lol you could get one of those Sparco baby seats, and use your rear strut bar as a mounting point for your mini 5 point harness. Hell ya, now I want a kid.

i told her that, but she keeps bringing up the "what if" arguements, like, " what if you have to pick up the baby and im out somewhere or what if there's an emergencey and the rx7 is the only thing we can use"... i hear it all the time...

plus, i wouldn't want to use my FD as my daily driver...

like i said, the backseats was just an idea... it was to comfort her and as an emergencey issue, and so i wouldnt have to sell my 7 too!!!....

On a trade, you could get probably atleast 8k for that 02 corrolla easily....plenty for either trading it in for 2 older accords. YOu should be able to find a pair of late 80's to early 90's accord 4 door in great shape for under 3k.

And then guess what.....she has no reason to complain anymore and you get to keep the 7.

There's a written rule in the "Cars and Women" handbook that says that women ABSOLUTELY CANNOT force you to sell your sports car until they are married to you.

After all, forcing a man to part with his sports car is one of the few priveleges/perks reserved just for married women.

My 1980 RX7 was sold when my wife got pregnant in 1986. Twenty six years later I picked up a 94. You do the math...as others have said if you have a front airbag then the front is not an option.

On a side note - how times have changed, years ago you would carry a baby in your lap.

advocates of 'modern parenting' approaches would say that kids shouldn't be in the front seat until adolescence. I tend to agree (absolutely if there's an airbag - but either way, it's inherently more dangerous).

the back seat - the official line from mazda is: no, under any circumstances. But it can be done. You'll never get a capsule in there (so that rules out using it for a while), but a baby seat can be used if you 'fill' the bucket (you can actually buy pads to do this) - however, it will reduce the stability of the seat (which is no doubt why mazda say it's a bad thing).

This configuration of a car 2+2 was never introduced into the US. So it was probably never tested for baby seat use, if it even was in Japan. I would question the intelligence of any parent that would put their kid in an untested seat of a car. Not to mention the lawsuits that could arise from an accident if your kid was hurt in the backseat of car that was never sold with one. Try telling your insurance that your kid was hurt in the backseat of 2 seat car. This is just another reason a license should be required before people should be allowed to have kids.

Either:

A. Take the 7 to work, and leabe her the other.

B. Tell her to buy a car for herself like a bloody adult.

C. Buy a third car for her.

I don't think you'll be able to remove the driveshaft hump.

FWD conversion!

you could awlays disable/remove the passenger front airbag if you have one. they make many cars so you can disable the front airbag now... i believe for the exact same reason.
