rear seat/interior room?

hi, i am getting an fd in a couple of weeks (yes i am mechanically inclined and i know lots about rotaries, and engines), i was wondering if there is room in the back for someone to sit for on one those storage compartments(yes i know it is not safe and i proably will not be doing it often but if need be i am wondering if someone could fit on the passenger side if the seat is moved up a little.

also does anyone know where i could buy a rear seat?

all help is appreciated
thanks alot

Well all Jap spec FDs have the seats in them.... That being said they don't fit anything bigger than a rhesis monkey.... so.... you want people in the back, buy a 4 door

No, there's no room for an adult much less a teenager; even with the seats.

not all JDM FDs have rear seats.

To the OP: like these guys said, there's no space back there to fit a human over 12

If you want them, www.fdnewbie.com sells them.

Probably because insurance and registration costs are cheaper for cars with 4-seats as opposed to cars with 2-seats.

Or it could be because in Japan most car owners only have one car to accomadate all their needs, since parking space is extremely lacking. Mazda may have been trying to help husbands fill their need for a sports car and at the same time convince their wives that a FD would be a great family car since it had four seats.

tight squeeze

Alright, yeah I have the 4 seat JDM, it is POSSIBLE to fit a passenger in the rear, teenager mid sized.. 5'10" or so. however be in great fear for your glovebox, the front seat has to be WAY farward and is beyond uncomfy for anyone sitting in front of back. Friends would rather drive themselves. If need be I can jam in two passengers plus me, but NEVER 3, my seat stays put seeing as I hardly fit already ( 6'3"). Doable if passenger is a MUST however not recommended for saftey and comfort of others, a crash with more then 2 people in the car wouldnt be fun.
just my $0.02

I did the rear seat conversion to my FD. I did it soley for cosmetics with the intention of not fitting anyone back there.

You CAN fit someone back there but on the passenger side if you move the pass seat all the way foward. It will still be tight but its manageable.

However if you really have to have someone sit back there, its better if they lay across the entire rear seat. I had my girl do that and it was tight for her. Shes only 5'3.

Ha! When people ask if they can go in my FD, I tell them it's only a two-seater. They say, "Well you have an extra seat!." "No no, that's for my cell phone."
