rear main seal replaced and STILL oil leakage!! Rear stat gear o-ring concerns.

I dropped the tranny again and replaced my rear oil seal to fix one of two of my oil problems. The old seal looked brand new but I still replaced it, inspected my rear stationary bolts and general area and found nothing out of the ordinary. Put it all back together and checked with a blacklight and after 10 mins of letting the car run at about 2500(oil pressure way low at idle, O-ring, replaced it already though) I found a trail of oil leaking down over top of the base plate of the stationary gear bolts and surface.

....So.....rear seal is good, I am aware of the oil seal on the stationary gear but I know its is OK, engine was just rebuilt so I assume the oil seal is in just as good shape as the old rear main seal(could have been over looked though). I have looked at my FSM in section 2 and looked even closer at the oil flow diagram.

If the o-ring on the rear stat gear is faulty, will it cause significant oil pressure drop that is almost exactly like the symptoms of a bad front housing o-ring? I have searched my *** off and have found plenty of people who have had the same issue but no one has posted if the new o-ring fixed the problem.

..I am running out of solutions and am frankly very frustrated.

What do you guys think??????

I've seen alot of engines look like they had a rear main seal leak when indeed it was that o-ring. So many people forget to replace it. Before you tear it apart, make sure its not your trans leaking. If you can get some dye and a uv light it will make things much easier. Another thing... alot of engine builders get lazy when building the engine. You need to remove the rear stationary gear if you are going to use a parts cleaner on the rear iron housing. Varsol will make that o-ring deteriorate and leak.

Yeah I hear it can be he tranny too... I am having the same problem. My rear main seal was replaced, it could be the o-ring or tranny... who knows.. might be the rear main seal. Gotta wait til ol Dave has time to check it out =/

Yeah I put UV dye in the oil and it is leaking from out or around the stationary(sorry i didnt mention that first). I am just burnt out of the maintence in order to get that replaced. Earlier i had an issue with an ACT clutch kit that was out of spec from the factory, I ended up dropping and installing my tranny 4 times and replaced everything that I THOUGHT was wrong with my tranny in order to make it go in gear(found out later through the dealer that it was an ACT factory defect).

yesterday I dropped it again to replace the rear main seal, put it back up, installed exhaust...... and on with an encore.

How much oil pressure drop will that rear stat o-ring cause?

Damn, dude you are doing it the hard way. I'll bet you can do a clutch job pretty damn quick now though

When I ported my motor I made sure to remove the stat gears, and also replaced the o-ring Ihor is talking about. I also lubed it up real good, hehe. Had the tranny freshly rebuilt as well. 10,000 miles later, no leaks from the car of any kind, anywhere.

o ring

Replace stationary gear o ring and put sealant on it. There is NO other way it would leak.
