Only in certain countries.
America is too dumb to mandate such a safe idea, let alone have the driver's intelligent enough to know when to use it.

Hence why you sometimes see a European car with a REALLY REALLY brite orange rear light. It's cuz the driver left his rear foglight on. I got pulled over for having mine on when there was no fog in Germany

Hey rybrx7, from all the Euro cars I've seen with a rear fog light, it has always been only ONE rear foglight. I can only assume that only that right light is the one that is supposed to come on.

I would love to see the wiring diagram for that

The reason only one light comes on is so drivers behind you know which side to pass on. Most countries that export autos to the US (Volvo, BMW, Audi) light up the left most fog light. Since you're in the UK and you drive on the wrong side of the road , it makes sense that only your right light comes on.

no no sorry u misunderstand not a fog light on the bumper, in the rear light assembly, i thought that was the whole point of the inner most of the 3 lights....

outer most, indicators, middle driving lights and brakes, then the inner most were the fogs???

as its a legal requirement here in the uk on the rite side of the road (the japanese drive on this side 2 and you cant argue with that seeing as they invented the 7 ) a button was installed under my steering column to turn them on,

the 99 spec lights in this pic, the inner most is the same brightness ( i know its not a real pic but i've seen ppl with them the same brightness as the middle) so i assumed that ppl just drove round with their fog lights on....

Oh, I don't think the inner most are fogs.

then WTF are these other lights that got brought up in the pic above. Are those fog lights? Why are the red?

I'm so confused...I've never seen those before

yes it does in the rear assembly as i've actually turned it on got out and had a look, i'll try get some pics up but wont be till after my rebuild im afraid.

butttttttttttttttt

what else would the inner most lights be used for???

they dont do anything! but mine is in the tail lights, was like this when i bought it, looks like he only wired one up though as only one comes on and is the same brightness as the the inner light when you brake, looks really good at night having two red dots like that

im not sure about this because i never knew until you told us... are you sure it is like that, in stock form, from the factory?? most probably the previous onwer modified it since it is a J-spec right...?

can you tell me how he wired it? some pix of the switch location and the wires from the rear light assembly will be nice too...

no it wouldnt of came out of factory like this, its a legal requirement to have a fog light fitted in the uk so it would have been wired when fitted.

i'll try get some more pics a.s.a.p but wont have my car for about 3 weeks sadly

the switch is just one thats been drilled in under the steering column, definitely not from factory

I don't really understand the point of the light. Anyone care to explain how it is a safety feature?

Over here in the states, both of the round lights (if you have done the 99spec conversion), work as brake lights. On a stock USD FD, it is also a brake light, but in a squarish form (like in ArchangelX's signature pic). Basically, both bulbs function as a brake light- they are both the same. As far as I know, Mazda only put a plastic piece in there, to reflect the circular tail light tradition of the 7. As for the rear fog lights, we do not have those here in the states, and the closest thing I have seen to rear fog lights, are those posted in pics above by the license plate (why are they red btw?). I have no idea how, or why the inner most red light on your car is working as a fog light. That's the first time I've ever heard of that.

how does buying the 99 tail lights make them both work as brake lights? that has nothing to do with the bulb setup itself ??

i think what Shinobi-X is saying is that both of the lights are the brake lights... Since they stoped exporting rx7 after 1995?? some have modified the stock lights to resebmble the 99spec...

he didnt say anything about buying the 99 tail lights...

3 weeks?? i have no choice do i? hehehe keep me update k dude... or u can pm me...

i think this is going to be another ghetto mod for some of us...

Yeah, Cihuuy has it right. I was only refering to the shape of the light, buying the 99specs has nothing to do with it. Many people, including myself have done the 99spec mod, but besides that, both of the bulbs in the red portion of the tail-light function as brake lights, whether or not you have modded them. As far as I'm aware, if you take off the tinted portion of the light on any FD, reveal the bulbs themselves, and press the brakes, you will see both bulbs turn on. From what you are saying, only your middle bulb turns on?

LOL, since I've never heard of them, I just assumed they appeared as regular (yellow) fog lights.
