rear end shakes????

New problem. When the car is cold and I release the clutch, the rear end will shake. It's not very bad but feels like a minor wheel hop. It's real noticable the first time I release the clutch and goes away after about the first 1/2 mile.

I do still have some air in the brake lines so could that be the problem or does it sound like a clutch, diff problem. Diff fluid is Redline, 2 months old and full. Tranny fluid and clutch are about 8 months old.

Very strange. My first thought was diff bushings, but if it only does it when cold, that doesn't seem right. How many miles are on your car? If you do a lot of drag race launching, it could be the diff gears/axles wearing out. Another thought is your rear whhel bearings. I'd have Rotary Performance look at it.

You should switch to a turboII rear since it can hold more power than a 3rd gen rear. As far as the shakes it might be the bushings.

Wheel bearings, that's a thought! The wheels not wanting to roll could defiantly cause this stutter.

Anyone have a site showing the wheel bearings? No I don't have a shop manual.
Thanks guys

I had this rear end shake problem too and it was really bugging me a lot. It did it when releasing the clutch and more so when starting uphill from standing. Working the clutch when shifting required a lot of concentration to be smooth.
A few weeks ago my clutch blew and I had to put in a new one (total $850). That was the best investment in the car so far. What a difference, its a totally new driving experience. Absolutely no more shaking and ultra smooth shifting, love it!
Your problem sounds like the same.
I put in a street clutch for better drivability and smooth shifting by the way.
Good luck........

It's probably the rear wheel bushings, if you only hear it when turning.

If it happens when the clutch is cold, it sounds like that might be the problem. IT could be a list of other things, but thats what it sounds like to me. Sometimes when a pilot bearing is about to go out, it will so it. That is usually the culprit. However, being new to the FD's, i have no clue if they even have a pilot bearing.
