Question Rear Differential problems?

I currently have a 93 RX-7 with approximately 110K miles. In great shape --- except --- over the last several months, I have been getting a sound in the back tires like they need to be rotated and balanced. I have done that several times and the noise continues.

One person seems to think I need a new rear differential. But another doesn't think that's it. However, he can't figure out what it is. Doesn't seem to think it's the bearings.

Anyone have this problem before? Anyone have a low cost solution?

Is it a clunking sound?

If it's a clunking sound, it could be a few things. Usually the first things to check are the bushings. After that, check this thread for more info:

It seems to be your bearings, mine r going bad. My car sounds like the tires need to be rotated when I knew they were bad.
