I'm going to replace my shocks all around, probably w/ the tokico illumina based on price and what folks are saying but why should I replace the stock shocks if they're OK?? Everyone says I should do it at the same time but what will I notice different w/ say Eibach springs if I put them in as compared to stock, except for lowering the car 1inch???

Help! really wondering if it's worth the extra $$

shock are like headlights at least do them in pairs or your car wll handle like ****...if ones bad the others cant be far behind...
the shock swap isnt the easiest job, so while your there might as well do springs...

Well,

(1) Your FD is old, prolly 8 or so years, therefore the suspension is most likely shot.

(2) If you're looking to save money when modding, I'd suggest getting a different car (seriously).

(3) Your rex will handle much, much better. I'd do it all at once.

That's what I'm wondering.........my car has 51k on it......like all fd's it has a very stiff ride and since i'm not racing it i'm wondering if the eibachs will give me a different ride than i'm getting with the stock springs.....i can't imagine they're shot at 51 k (although the shocks are) .... it's not the money as much as i'm wondering how the ride will differ after replacing the springs........... am i makin' sense??

bacon....yeah no question i'm going to replace the shocks all around.

Hmm, well...my buddy has Eibachs/Illuminas and I believe his car is dropped ~1 inch. That alone will help your handling out. Not sure, though man...

I've got Koni Yellows and Eibach springs. The Koni's drop it from 10 to 15 mm (about half an inch). The Eibach's subtract another inch. The car looks great at that height, and I was never a lowered kind of guy before. It's a bit of a pain having to be so careful all the time, especially if you have a front spoiler or a non-stock front end.

The handling is fantastic. Your brain says "start turning right," the impulse shoots down your arms, and your trusty FD obeys. It feels like one of those little gocarts that you can turn on a dime. That sounds like a stupid comparison, but that's what I thought of when I first experienced it.

The ride is rough, no doubt about it. My CD player skips more than it did in my Maxima. I hope to get the chance to drive a stock FD to see how the ride and handling are supposed to feel. I would probably get adjustable shocks and live with them for a while. See if you like the ride height, play with the stiffness, and then do the springs if you want. But it sounds like some of these guys have more experience in the matter so you might save some trouble and do it all at once.

Good luck.

If you know your going ot eventaully change the springs, then go ahead and do it all at once. It'll save you a few hours of work and the price of a second alignment down the road, and you'll love the lowered stance.

Thanks for the comments guys...........

Anybody know how to tell when the springs need to be replaced aside from bouncing up and down like a yo-yo??

Springs last for much longer than shocks. Springs will degrade, but won;t actually collapse until a long long time. Shocks are bad when the up and down movement of suspension doesn't stabalize immediately.

I wouldn't go with eibach, but RB or M2.
