Hey goodfellas, I have a friend that's in the marines, stationed at 12 palms I think or, 18 palms down near SA cali who is in town visiting right now. He told me a few stories about Camel spiders. Have you seen or had any contact with them?

Steve

Oh, they're bad mamajamas. I killed two of them when I was out in Kuwait. They're fast as ****, and not afraid of people at all. At night if you have a flashlight they'll run right for you. If they bite you, it's acidic and can actually eat away your skin. One guy lost a chunk of his ear. I haven't seen any here in Iraq, thank goodness. Vicious little bastiches.....

Heh. Well, I'm coming home soon and they took me out of Ar Ramadi (a hotbed of activity) and stuck me in this desk job until I go back. I'm not complaining----I made way too many "Combat Logistics" trips into downtown Baghdad. You heard about that poor soldier getting shot in the neck while shopping in Baghdad? I was in that same area at least 5 times last month. So, yes, I believe I will screw off like it's my job for awhile

Lol yeah, he was telling me how they have had some people get stiches because of the gashes those spiders take out of you.

Then he told me a story about a platoon that had a pet Prey mantis who they called stuart who they would put up against random bugs and animals in wars. He was champion until they used a camal spider who tore it to shreds in seconds.
