RE short shifter question
RE short shifter question
Does the RE Amemiya short shifter just sit lower (shortened section above the bearing) or is it thesame as the OEm but with a shortened throwway (due to adifferent leverconcept)?
Thanks
Thanks
Trev, the "RE Amemiya D1 Drift Spec shifter" (official name
) is the geniuine/original shifter IIRC, and the C's shifter (not Mazdaspeed) is very similar.
If I may quote another forum member:
I did see this thread, but I didn't answer b/c I've never taken apart the shifter to look at it in detail. Here's a pic if you'd like.

PS: Travis, that RE Shifter sold within 24 hrs, and I got a couple more requests, so I have a few more on the way. (BTW I PMed ya back)

I wish I could afford half of the stuff you put up for sale. But alas, I am forced to buy used carbon fiber hoods because I can't shell out the funds to get something nice. Ramy, you're my hero.

The throw is shorter and the stalk is shorter. The shift **** pushes down the leather boot about an inch (I think). It's extremely smooth, like stock. I'm very happy with it!

Actually one of my buddies got the RE shifter and I was sort of disappointed in it, cuz I have a Mazdaspeed SS and another one of our friends has B/M shifter, and both of ours reduced throws about 40%. However, the RE shifter felt exactly the same, maybe like 10% shorter if that, and it was a night and day difference between the Mazdaspeed/BM units.
I think RE focused on making a SMOOTH shifter and a slightly shorter throw. B&M is great, I have it, but it's a great way to break your 5th gear synchro. The throw is SO short that it's not too easy to catch 5th when upshifting fast.
Point is that a shortened upper section of the shifter is only a half-*** solution. it jsut giives you the impression to make a shorter shift, while in fact it's not. I love the OEm height/position of the shifter as it is close to the steering wheel and I don't want to be grabbing around for my shifter when I need react quickly. Also i don't want to have the shifter **** disappearing halfway into the booth.
that's really why I asked. A changed leverconcept (lower section) should keep the shifter at thesame height as stock, but shorthening the throw. Now I realise this is not an easy concept as the shifter is going right into the gearbox, leaving few options to do this.
