Question Rats nest toasted, going non-seq: What mods should go with it?

Since I would have to buy a bunch of solenoids and silicon lines to redo my rats nest I figure I may as well go non-seq and save some rats nest cash.
So I'm not asking for a non vs. seq debate here, I just want some suggestions as to bolt-on mods to a currently stock setup to get the most out of the non.
The only thing that would keep me from doing the non is if it makes my car illegal for smog (CA). I'm posting in the west forum to find that out.
I'm not too concerned about the lack of low-end torque as long as it pulls like a race car(wont be my daily driver). What IS out for me, however, is a streetport. I've heard that those dont pass smog(not sure). Thanks

Yeah I've checked that out a few times Gil, and it makes my head hurt every time.
I just want some ideas for aftermarket parts that should be considered when doing this conversion i.e DP, hi-flo cat, intake, ECU, boost contoller, etc.
Dont even want to think about busting my knuckles this time round. Damn right, someone is gonna get paid to do all this $#!^ to my car

Through my searches I have come up with this but Im not sure if its correct.
Full exhaust dp, mp, cb
Intake + intake hardpipe kit
Upgraded Intercooler stockmount or frontmount
Standalone ECU

Im looking to do this to my car soon too so if anyone has some good detailed info it would be appreciated.

You can retain the emissions part of the vacuum lines and still be non-seq. However, that means you simply can't pull the entire rats nest out of the car.

Okay but being in Cali means I get a hi-flo cat instead of a MP.
I'm looking for brand names from guys(girls too) who are runnin this setup so I can be confident about how the parts work together before I buy.
Nemesis, did you look on the link Speedking put up there? He has all the info.

So, say 25% under must remain for emissions? Okay I can deal with that. For me buying a used solenoid (and I'd need em all) for 25 buck a pop isnt financially sound. I really dont want ANYTHING that could be a liability uder there at this point.
Oh, and did I say ANYTHING new from Mazda wouldnt be sound financially either? Every dime i keep this girl from eating counts
