Unhappy A rather odd question...

ok guys... I tried searching for this one, but only got close to the info I need.

I'm doing an auto to manual converion on my '93 FD. I'm almost done--just need a few more parts [flywheel, ecu, and the driveshaft modified (anyone know if it's longer or shorter?)... that's about it I think... O_o]. Anyway, this is my question:

I just bought an '89 FC pedal assembly from a dismantler and I was wondering whether it was the same as the FD assembly or not. The dismatler said it was... but she gave me a confused look at the end which grew some doubt in my mind. I actually called racingbeat on this one and they have no idea! ...It's something they never delt with before. I'd appreciate any feedback on this as soon as possible cuz I only have a 5 day return policy on it. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

Oh and by the way, this is my first post ever on this forum.. I've just been ghosting around looking at old threads about the 5speed conversion and what not (emjack1... thanks for all those helpful posts! ^_^). Just getting my feet wet finally ...btw, if this subject has already been posted, sorry about that. Still getting used to the search tool ^_^. Hope to post an intelligent thread someday! Thanks again guys

Not trying to be an *** or anything, but you might get a better response if you name the thread something relevant.

I am pretty darn sure they are different. They may possibly mount the same, but visual they are different. If no one else responds, take some pics and post them here, or ask the FC forum if they have pictures they can post here for you

Yea that's still my fear... but I'll try and get some pics to you guys as soon as I can. But even if the mount isn't the same, don't you think I could maybe weld JUST the clutch portion on there? And possibly cut the length of the brake pedal? ...I'm just thinking out loud, as that may be more trouble than it's worth. ^_^ But I'll post those pics and you guys can tell me.

Oh and thanks paw140... no worrries I'll remember in the future, just didn't know what to title this one without typing a sentance or two ^_^

The pedals are different, im pretty sure that Fritz Flynn has a set of pedals for sale. Actually i know he does cause i saw them on his car last weekend . Also the driveshafts are different lengths and the have a different pattern on the part of the shaft that mates with the output shaft of the tranny. One will not fit on the other. Also the Flange on the differential is different. You will have to buy a 5 spd driveshaft, and if you want to keep the auto differential and flange, just drill new mounting holes for the driveshaft so it will bolt up to the auto diff.

Dont chop the brake pedal, get a nice shiny 5 spd one, and do away with the plastic auto brake pedal...

You may have to replace the wiring harness. Last year I bought an FD from Clean and Fast in N.C. and it was an auto that they converted to 5 spd. When I installed the motor nothing worked. It seems that the auto harness is slightly different. Needless to say they sent me a harness out if a 5 spd and everything was ok, it was just a pain in the arss to take the dash out and switch the 2 harnesses.

Thanks guys for the help! Actually I checked it out today--compared the 2 clutch pedal assemblies--and guess what, I could have saved some trouble by just checking up on this post and reading ejmack1's response O_o. haha, oh well, live and learn...
Turns out that the 2nd gen has the two pedals on one large assembly while the fd pedals seem to be separate pieces.

On another note: I had no idea the driveshaft had a different pattern for the part that mated to the tranny! That info saved me a costly driveshaft length modification that would have been a bunk waste of $. I already love this forum ^_^.

And finally, about the wiring harness being different.. can I get a second opinion on that? Not that I'm trying to discredit you SilvioRX7 or anything but I'm just not sure if I have to or not (gawd I hope I don't ^_^). A freind of mine with a converted manual FC didn't have to.. in fact, he didn't even need an ecu (just had warning lights and weird **** like rev limiter being earlier and what not). The car ran, a little sloppy, but it ran. He finally got the manual ecu and it was just fine... no wiring harness needed. But some info on that would be helpful. Thanks you guys.
