Random Starting problem
I have a 93 with ~89k miles (PFC, commander, datalogit, lots of other mods) on it that has developed a rather annoying new habit. Occasionally when the key is turned to start the engine won't turn over.
I have already replaced the clutch interlock switch hoping that it might be the culprit, but I'm stilling having the problem. The problem is not related to temperature or any other noticeable factor.
The first time it happened the car had been parked for about a week, I got in, tried to start it, nothing. Left it for a couple of days, and the next time I tried it, it started??? At that point I replaced the clutch interlock switch, drove to a friend’s house, let the car sit for a few hours then went to drive home, the first turn of the key, nothing, on second try it started right up.
The car will bump start even though the engine want turn over, so I'm pretty sure that it isn't anything with the factory security system, and the problem is isolated to the starting circuit.
What else might be marginal in the system? My next thought is to replace the ignition switch, and then maybe have the starter rebuilt.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mort
