Unhappy random stalling issue gets worse each day :(

hey so i did a search and couldn't come up with much on this but heres my issue

for the last week or so the car has been stalling at stoplights or when decelerating, i had just chalked it up to my screwed up automatic trans as it sort of felt like the torque converter was stuck in lockup (kinda like coming to a stop in a manual with out pressing in the clutch.)

no biggie because thats getting replaced. but the issue is getting worse and now im thinking i may be wrong, or possibly dealing with two issues.

i've also had a strange problem where sometimes the car tries to still just before the turbos kick in, like a hardcore lag then BOOST, for the last week or so, a simple, shutdown and restart would fix this. but now, shes starting to stall when driving and doesnt want to restart. yesterday i cranked for about 10 minutes with nothing, no fuel smell, no smoke, no nothing. i unpluged the battery and tried again, and it started and ran great. last night she did it again, i tried unplugging the battery again but it didnt work this time. 4 tries latter and a full ecu reset (unplug bat, and hold brake for 1 minute) and shes fired up just fine, drove great all the way home.

OH she did start once last night durring the cranking, idled ok, but felt like she was out of gas, you know when you press the gas and it revs but like... REAL slow and wont rev higher than 3k.

thats all the information i can think to give. im at a loss here.. any ideas?

thanks

Question

How many miles on the motor? Have you done a compression test yet?

Usually decel stalls and coming to a stop stalls are usually associated with:
clutch switch
dash pot
tps
idle position

The other problems sound like electrical issues or a bad sensor or relay which could be 1 of 20 different things. One instance sounds like the fuel pump wasn't coming on and another the slow revving can be assoc. with limp mode. If it's intermittent that can sometimes be the knock sensor.

Bottomline is check sensors and connections/wires to sensors.

This sounds alot like the issues im having. I just posted in another thread but this seems alot similair.

I have an auto trans too, except I have about 120 000 miles on my car, though good compression checked about a month ago at mazda. It does have some white smoke apon startup but that goes away, and also some white smoke when the turbos kick in at WOT, but once again that goes away.

My car, when warm, it would stall approaching a light on deceleration in drive, so I had to slip it into neutral and sometimes that would save it from stalling. It also has a hot start issue and it wont start when warm unless I play with varrying throttle blips.

It seems to have gotten worse though. When this started to occur, above 2000rpm the car would be all normal. But lately at random rpms and speeds, if i try to give it throttle it doesnt respond at all and tries to stall so I have to once again give it varrying amounts of throttle till the car responds (its only done this once in the past a couple months ago now its doing this alot)

This seems to sound similair to your problem.

Also when it did this I tried giving it max throttle and I heard what sounded like detonation. I pulled the spark plugs and they dont seem out of the ordinary, a bit blackened but not bad and I replaced them about a year ago.

Ive already looked at these areas searching through old threads:

no clutch switch

dash pot is in spec

took off the ISC and cleaned it with carb cleaner, seems to have helped it with stalling, and its now doing the lag issue alot less frequent.

In the coming week im gonna be replacing the throttle body with a working unit, as well as the coils, and possibly fuel filter. Ill let you know if that clear up the problems
