Random killing

Finished the single project a couple of weeks ago and every thing seems to be in working order. The only problem i am having is and random kill.

1st: We were street tuning, everything is going fine and all of the numbers are coming in nice. On one 3rd gear pull I'm about 5-6k and i let off because i was in the wrong lane and all of my lights are on but no engin respons. Nothing came up on the comp but i was getting any fireing. It was turning over but no firing. Took about 15min and then it started to fire got it to go and it ran fine the rest of the way home.

2nd: Driving into town about 5miles under 50mph the whole way, i park at a gass station kill it. Come out takes a few turns on the key and then it gets going. A mile down the road it kills (with a nice posch behind me.) It took a few cranks then it came back around.

3rd: Start it up 2 days later and start to pull out and car kills. Thought it was me but it didn't turn over right away.

4th: After going through a bunch of the electronics (plugs, coils, knock sensor and re- doing some wiring) and everything looking good. It kills one block away from the shop. Takes about 2 turns of the key and it fires but dies. One more and some love on the gas and it goes. No problems the rest of the night even with shutting it down for a while and coming back to it.

Any one with an idea?

A guy I know had some very random electrical problems that turned out to be his aftermarket MAP sensor. The sensor wasn't mounted in the correct position (I guess there's a top side to them), and it would send some weird signals that caused the fuel mixture to go nuts and cause the car to stall.

Now that I think about it more, his car would run weird and then stall sometimes. If your car is working well and then not working at all, I'd look at electrical connections, especially loose pins inside a connector or wiring that might have been bent or pinched. Have your front tires ever rubbed the plastic fender lining?

Wear through a wiring harness right behind the wheel liner causing a possible short.

Almost sounds like fuel supply.

Check: Fuel pressure
Fuel filter
Fuel VOLUME. (almost nobody checks this)
You can have pressure on spec with pump output volume not on spec.
Clogged in tank screen at fuel pick up.
Just some ideas.

I replaced the pump and the filter with my single conversion. The pressure comes out fine and stays fine while running. Although it doesn't hold presure as long as it should. We have done every check we can think of and no luck finding that problem.

double check your connections at the fuel pump in the tank. Loose or shorted wires will do exactly what you described

one of the first things i checked whe i wasn't holding presure. I would think that something that is such a critical part of the car running like the fuel pump would be more consistent in the problem. The trouble with random problems is they are very hard to track. I have been looking at the electrical pretty hard but is it possible for something mechanical to be spuradic in its default?

His TPS is working ok, and is within spec.

By different map, do you mean fuel map? Because we are trying to tune the car. It doesn't die on any given cell, it's all over, and it's in consistent.

Ya what he said! Come on guys i've gotta be missing something. Its staring me right in the face but i'm looking to hard to see it. On a good note it hasn't done it the last two times i have driven. Well, one time it dyed right when i started it and sometimes the idle fludders but then goes back to normal. Mabey i need to do some more tuning, but i don't want it to dye randomly anymore.
