Question Ran into prob. motor is in, (clutch to flywheel issues)

While I wait for a last banjo bolt to arrive before I finally get to start the new reman, I did the last of whats left to do on the install..
and that is to simply bolt the pressure plate to the flywheel through the tranny window (yes I know you can bolt it to the flywheel before its installed) But I didnt have the alignment tool and a few others had done it this way easily.

heres whats goin on...

Well basically the bolt holes (from the PP to the flywheel) are not lined up AND the flywheel studs have found the wrong holes to reside in already.
So I thought I could simply pull the pressure plate away from the flywheel and have my buddy rotate the crank pulley, whilst I free them all and position the pressure plate where I need it to be.
Well as soon as I did one, it seemed to get stuck and not allow him to turn the crank pulley. I put it back in and we tried from another area.. same result.
We pushed the clutch pedal in and it helped a bit, but as we rotated the flywheel again to try and free the pressure plate, it locked up. It seems its not going to let me move the Pressure Plate to where I need it, unless I take drastic measures.. is this true?

Am I going to have to un bolt the Bell Housing from the block (while balancing it on a jack) to get some space to spin the pressure plate free and line it up properly?

Or will moving the tranny away from the engine while the clutch is in, cause a problem?

I know there is alot to read and be confusing.. but any one that has seen or had this problem, might be able to shed some light. thanks

Were you planning to torque the pp bolts to the flywheel down? I can't imagine trying to get my torque wrench through that little access window. You need to take the trans off the car and just start over. It’s not too much work. A clutch alignment tool is like two bucks at auto parts stores.
Good luck,
Dave

^^ I have about 20 of these alignment tools, If you would like one i would be more than happy to send it to you.. And I have to agree 100% that the easiest way at this point is to remove the tranny. ( This is one of the reasons in all these type posts asking how to change the clutch, I always say to remove the tranny.) Just makes life easier. As you are now learning.

I agree, once the lock ring snaps into the pressure plate, you are not going to be able to rotate it as easily. I know it sucks, but the trally needs to come off. If BigIslandSevens is willing to send you a tool, take him up on the offer and do it right. Trust me, this will save you some sanity in the long run.

thats what I was afraid of. Well I guess thats what I must do.
So if I pop the snap ring off, it will be impossible to reattach it through the tranny window huh?

Big Isle 7, Ill take you up on the tool. Ill PM you. thnaks alot

just PM you back.. It would only be 3.85 shipping and i would not even want that back from you ... just want to help you out and make it easier.

And you may still be able to get it on correctly. However my concern at this point would be a contaminated disc or PP or flywheel face from all the moving around and tools that have been in there.
