Radio removal woes

Well I followed everything I could on this one.

Car is a 1993 Touring w/Bose system.

I removed the things on the side stick in a Din Removal tool, they press the buttons and it hooks but it doesn't slide out easily at all in face it requires alot of effort. So much so infact that not only does the unit not move at all but I broke the face of the CD player.

I am now thinking about taking apart the dash and doing things the hard way.

Anyone got any tips for me?

PULL! There is a rubber stud that is pushed in to a metal support bracket at the back of the radio. Over time this rubber hardens and it gets really hard to pull it out of the bracket. Pull as hard as you can, but make sure you don't pry around the radio.

I kept wiggling the cd player back and forth and it finally came out. Take your time.

This picture shows the "opening" in the rear support piece. This is where the rubber bumper on the back of the radio is pressed into. It takes some pressure to pry that bumper out of the tight fit but it will come.

When you insert the removal tools, you need to go all the way in then you press both left and right outward and pull. It will pop off sometimes, just reinsert and try again with firm pressure.

Since you don't have to worry about breaking the head unit anymore, pull on that sum bitch.

I used the Ford DIN removal tools I find out a local parts store.

Pulling the Head unit was fairly easy using those.

I did that too. Cheaper than buying the tool.

The advantage(??) of the tool is it has little indents on the ends that help get a better grip when pulling. But I have used coat hangers too when in a pinch. The key, as mentioned earlier, is wiggling up and down (mostly down on the front to raise the back) to get the rubber thing dislodged from the bracket.

I used a dremel to make little notches to do that. Only took a couple of minutes.

Wow I feel like I have radio from hell. Managed to break the face off the tapeplayer today using the appropriate tool. After maybe 25 pulls the radio is just barely moving. Removed the side pieces under the dash and they don't give any more access so I guess this is going to take either two people or a hell of alot of time.

I don't know if this will help, but as I remember, after inserting the removal tools instead of just pulling back on them you first had to bend each toward the center and then pull back on them.
A previous poster says bend the removal tools outward. Maybe he's right. I forget. It's been a while. But anyway,
try both approaches. See if finessing it works.

So I got the cassette player out about 2 inches but I just cannot move it anymore than this.

To get it out that much I actually had to put some tie wraps on two metal posts inside the radio and pull from there!

I looked around the back of the radio and there is no way I can access the wiring harness so this leads me to believe that this is the way to do it and I am just crazy!

Please tell me which portion of the radio do you remove first the cassette or the CD? In the manual it says the cassette first and then undo the plugs to the CD is this correct? And yes of course I disconnected the Antenna
