RacingBeat Exhaust is still too loud.... lets modify!!!

Hey guys!!~~~
First of all here is my set up... Race ported motor (idle sounds like ****!!)
HKS Downpipe, stock CAT, and Racingbeat Dual Tip (newer style).
I really love the way it sounds after 3K.... but man... at idle it sounds
like a muscle car!!!~~~ and I hate it!!~~~
Some girls even told me that it sounds like a go-cart!!! hahahaha~~~

Anyways.... I'm thinking..there has got to be a way to quiet this sucker even more.... and how can I achieve this???? Replace the stock cat with another muffler??? and has anyone do this before???

I really like the sounds of my engine and turbos rather than the exhaust....
I'm even thinking about selling this and go back to stock....
but before I do that.... I'm hoping to see if there is another option....

But lets figure something out... shall we??

Thanks!!~~~~

Yeah, Id just put that resonated mid-pipe in there. If its still too loud, add another straight through resonator (if thats an option).

the resonated mid-pipe is gonna be louder than the stock cat. its more "open" and the more "open" you make the exhaust, the louder the whole thing is gonna get. either add an additional muffler ON TOP of what is already there (cat and catback) or more reasonably, just go with a new OEM muffler... as its the queitest one available. anything you do to make it quieter is gonna cost you power though.

this exact same, or similar topic was addressed about 3-4 weeks ago on here so search it out and you'll see what i'm talking about.

It quieted my set-up so my wife or neighbors are no longer annoyed.

nothing is quieter than a stock cat.

if you want quieter than an RB exhaust, you are either going to have to revert back to a stock cat back exhaust OR try and find a shope to weld in some kind of small resonator between the cat and the rear muffler.

I find two things amazing in this thread:

1) that someone would find a car with a downpipe and RB cat-back too loud.
2) that people would recommend replacing a stock cat with a midpipe to reduce noise levels. Geesh.

akiratdk:

Are you running non-seq turbos? Your car really shouldn't be that loud, although the big porting probably doesn't help. How old is the RB cat-back? Are you sure you don't have an exhaust leak?

I have the full 3" ebay exhaust, which was quite loud after I did nonsequential. I loved the sound my turbo FC made with it's RB full turboback exhaust. So I bought one of rb's 3" turbo presilencers that is used in that system, along with 2 3" flanges. I took the car to the shop and removed the midpipe. Bolted up both flanges to the Dp and Catback, and put the presilencer in the middle, and bent pipe in between. The presilencer is a straight through 3" design with baffles to the sides...it looks like a small muffler on the outside. It was a tight fit to bend 3" pipe and make it fit, but it sounds MUCH better...almost identical to my t2. The only problem is, this solution cost right over $300. But, i doubt there is another resonator on the market that makes a rotary sound as good as the RB 3" turbo presilencer.

I have the same setup, it is very quiet, barely louder than stock.

You've got another problem, probably a exhaust leak like others have mentioned.

I have the same setup (except with a hi-flo cat) as Jeff. I suspect you have other issues with your exhaust.

That should work for what you're looking to do.

First lets just put it this way, I think we're getting too old cause i remember back in the days we loved those loud exhausts. I visited AkiraTDK over the weekend and the FD is a tad bit loud. There's no exhaust leak or nothing.. it's just a bit on the loud side.

For those of you that are recommending a resonated MP over the stock cat for quietness, I think you're wrong. A resonated MP is louder than the stock cat so let's just keep this out of the way for now.

For AkiraTDK... YO MAN just do what i said!!! trade someone you're damn exhaust for a stock one plus some cash!!! There's no need to be welding and cutting and crap like that...yoooou no like loud exhaust - yoooou put back stock. noooo money back.

And for the question about having a race ported motor with a stock exhaust... he didn't have a choice.. he bought it like that.

how good will his car run with a restrictive exhaust like the stock one...it would be like suffocating yourself...raceported motors dont do too good with restricted airflow...

These are some real quite mufflers, but still flow very well. You might want to try putting one of these on there. They worked very well on my mustang (525 RWHP NA on Pump Gas).

Yep.. that's the down side... he was bitching about it losing HP... but if you want a quiet exhaust... you're going to lose some power.. it's a give and take situation.

I had a 3 inch straight pipe from the cat back and put the stock exhaust back on... i could really notice the HP decrease.. but then i put on a HKS DP and that really improved turbo spool response and a bit more HP while keeping the car at near stock db levels.

I drive girls around and they love my car now. btw.. i'm 25... girls my age especially if they're more mature don't really like loud cars... including myself. so i guess it's all about preference.

just my opinion... peace.

Hey GABE!!~~~~ WATSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPP~~~~

Yea... we were both talking about this situation because I was thinking this exhaust is a little too loud. So.... for quieter exhaust tone we need to sacrifice HP levels.....
Yea... that sounds right.... rather than "just put a resonate mid-pipe"
Seriously....do you guys actually think a resonated mid pipe will be more quiet than a stock cat?????????????????????? I don't think so.....

So..... let me think about selling my exhaust.... but I really don't think there are "ALMOST LIKE NEW" Condition stock exhaust either..............
Does anyone have a new stock exhaust?????????????????
Raise there hand!!
