Racing Beat muffler

Thinking of doing a custom exhaust (can get a real good price on piping), and was contimplating what muffler to use. I know that RB is the quietest and that is what i want. So can you buy just the RB muffler with out the whole setup? If not is there any other dual tip muffler that would work and hold up to the rotary heat?

You would need to find out who makes the muffler for them and buy it direct. I doubt they make it themselvs.

Hey I have a pretty old racing beat single that "rusted" through prior to the muffler connection.. the connection/gasket area would need to be cleaned up a little, but If you wanted it we could work out VERY cheap price.. shoot me a pm if you are interested.

ya your right they dont make it themselfs. It used to be RSR but im not sure who it is now that manufactures them.
I could use another brand but im not sure 1; who makes a dual tip (prob lots out there just havent checked yet) and 2: what muffler is going to withstand our heat temps.

I'm using two magnaflow straight through mufflers with a 3.5" ID. It has a very nice deep tone to it without being too overwhelming.

After building, or more accurately paying someone to build, a custom turbo back exhaust I have two pieces of advice for you. First, try to get it right on the first attempt. If you think you might want two mufflers instead of one ect, do it the first time. Otherwise you end up not only paying for work to be done twice, but also paying for the previous work to be undone. Second, make sure you use a long muffler tip. I found that extending it out a few inches has a big impact on interior drone. I belive it's because the shorter tip allows the sound waves to resonate through the rear bumper more.

Good luck with the project.

By useing two Magnaflows you meen one as a muffler and the other as resonated mid-pipe correct? The ID is 3.5", so that makes the inlet/oulet 3.5 also i hope. I want to go with 3.5" piping so that would work perfect.

The only problem with this as a muffler is its outlet is single, and i want to go with a dual tip. i know you can buy tips that split from a 1 into 2, but they dont look as good as dual straight from the can.

Did you by any chance hear a Borla first to make you choose the Magnaflow, or better yet what made you go with the Magnaflow over others?
And thanx for the incouragement!!!

Correct. I have a a 3.5" 14x (5x8) oval canister as the catback muffler and a second muffler in the midpipe that is 3.5" x 14 x 6" round.

The ID is 3.5", so that makes the inlet/ourlet 3.5 also i hope. I want to go with 3.5" piping so that would work perfect.
The ID of the muffler and pipe coming out of the ends is actually slightly larger than 3.5." My fabricator said this is common practice to make it easier to weld tubing to the mufflers. Are you set on doing at 3.5” system? Remember, the larger the diameter the less effective resonator style mufflers will be. According to the person I spoke to at Borla, large diameter mufflers are less effective because there is more dead space in the center of the tubing where the sound waves do not interact with the muffler walls.

The only problem with this as a muffler is its outlet is single, and i want to go with a dual tip. i know you can buy tips that split from a 1 into 2, but they dont look as good as dual straight from the can.
I agree. However, the split will create more backpressure than a straight through design. I wanted a muffler that had more ground clearance than my old Power Extreme, very little back pressure, and looked relatively stock. I'm sure every time a police officer see's a giant polished stainless steel muffler their eyes light up. I think the Magnaflow fit that bill very well.

I didn't get a chance to hear the Borla, but it was one of the mufflers I was considering. Frankly, I think they're comparable. I chose the magnaflow because (A) a friend of mine used them on a few track cars and liked the tone (so it was a known commodity) and (B) with all other things being equal they were a little bit cheaper than the Borlas.
