I haven't been active on here for a long time so I appreciate your insights... thinking of selling my Yellow R1.. very original.. I'm the second adult owner.. never raced.. ~48K miles... located in So Cal... what kind of values are nice R1s fetching these days?

Thanks!

Lots of money, based on the info you provided I would say that at least a 32k car if paint and interior are in good share and the car is mechanically sound.

Thanks Johnny.

I saw some older posts with prices close to $40K and I thought that seemed pretty high.

If you're only thinking of selling, list it at $40k and see what kind of interest there is. If it sells, you will know you hit the top of the market.

Listing price seldom is the selling price.

If you sell it in the next couple of months, I would be interested. Located in SoCal too.

Evening all,

I just want to remind everyone that this thread is NOT a For Sale ad nor is it a method to back door our classified section. To the OP, did the responses you received answer the question?

P.S. Read Fritz Flynn's thread for additional insight: How to value your FD and why today its diffuclt to sell for 25k or more

Why is OP being pressured to confirm whether the responses answer his question? This thread can go on as long as he wants it to as long as he doesn't violate terms. Fritz' value thread doesn't have to be the only value thread. Last I checked, this is a public forum and the guy doesn't need to answer whether he got enough responses.

There are tons of duplicative threads on other topics.

TwinCharged,

In keeping with the topic's course, do you have added insight or other references that may benefit the OP? I only know of Fritz's thread, hence its citation. Perhaps you have a favorite reference to share?

My comment was in response to your question to the OP. So it's not really off topic as your post is also part of the thread.

Is there a rule somewhere stating that I can't post something that deviates from the main topic of the thread even though it is a response to another poster in the thread. Keep in mind, I've said nothing disrespectful or violated any rule. Unless there is a new rule that I'm not aware of. Not sure why you are questioning the OP or me.

And to be clear. My question was in response to you asking the OP whether his question had been answered sufficiently. We don't see that question from a mod in many other threads, and it seems odd. This thread does not appear to be a work around to the classified section. If it was an obvious for sale thread, then I get it.

Easy, there....

When buying interest and selling interest combine in the thread, it becomes a de-facto FS thread. We don't allow open ended negotiations in FS threads (or anywhere here). And, we don't allow FS threads in the discussion sections. If the guy wants a valuation, he'd be better served to do it in Fritz's thread @Gen2n3 suggested, preferably with lots of pictures.

We're curious if he has been satisfied, so that we could prevent the issues that come with the problems mentioned above. The rules are here to protect members(buyer or seller) from scams and compel fair sales with defined prices in the correct venue.

We wouldn't want this dude to get low balled in PMs and short sold. And, we wouldn't want anyone to send payment for a fake car. Not that either would happen. But, either could.

Someone getting lowballed in a PM and selling their car at a low value is not something that a Mod should police. That's on the seller to protect themselves. That can happen on any website or in the real world.

I've been on this forum a long time, and don't recall a mod ever pressuring the OP to state whether they've gotten what they need. That part is unnecessary, just state the reminder that this can't turn into a for sale thread and that's it.

This thread does not read like a FS thread, but if asking about value is defacto a FS thread in the mods eyes, then it should be a written rule.

Regarding the "easy there" comment. I've said nothing inflammatory or disrespectful, yet now another mod is stepping in for no reason. This is a public forum, I can make comments on threads.

Mods are exactly here to protect users from predation and enforce the rules, using their trusted judgement. @gen2n3 isn't pressuring anyone. He's being quite kind. I'm stepping in to help you understand.

You've tangled with the mods and vendors before, and you're making OPs thread about you and your BS. Just because you're using civil language doesn't mean you're not "continuing or instigating a fight with mods". If you have commentary on how this forum is run, then please put it in the correct section: https://www.rx7club.com/website-rela...ons-issues-21/

If you come back here with anything not directly related to the OPs question, I'm serving you an infraction based on continuing a fight. This is not a discussion. This is an explanation, and it's finished in this venue.

I believe OPs car is worth $35k. Maybe $40k.

Remarks redacted.

downtempo,

Thanks for the reply. I thought more about your initial question. Have you done any research outside of the forum to help determine the value of your FD? For example, what does Kelly Blue Book, ebay, or collector car insurance companies report?

Be careful when sifting thru ebay listings. Just because a car was listed for $x does not mean the Seller got the asking price. A better strategy is to search thru closed/completed items. This would help you make a better comparison between the sold item and your car.

Regarding insurance companies, value information may be harder to get. However, collector insurance companies such as Grundy or Hagerty may provide some insight.

TwinCharged,

What references do you have available to assess downtempo’s FD? Would you please share any links you may have so others may learn from them?

I don't have any references other than 15 years of owning 4 different fd's and monitoring pricing on several venues.

It's a CYM and it's not beat to crap. Why do I need to share details to support my opinion. This is a car forum. If you want to police this type of thing there are literally thousands of other threads where people don't post supporting info after they make a comment.

We're trying to engage you constructively. Not police you. He was just asking you to elaborate on your opinion.

Bring a Trailer continues to be an interesting referendum on Rx7 values. I don't think we've seen a similar CYM r1 yet. But, you could begin to draw some ideas.

I don't view it as constructive engagement.

No one else gets asked for references by a mod. I could understand the OP asking that question.

I also received an infraction if 3 points for fighting with mods. I'm not fighting. I voiced an opinion and simply questioned the a comment from a mod. But I guess there is some undefined rx7 club version of fighting with a mod that I'm not aware of. Will likely be banned and my comments sensored like the above.

Sounds like a you-problem.

We (members) ask lots of people to justify their opinion, all the time. Stop being so sensitive.

I voiced an opinion and simply questioned the a comment from a mod.
Stop questioning mods in main threads. Find a more constructive way to address your concerns. Like all the other instances: you're fighting windmills you believe are dragons, OP is happy, you have a problem, you fail to receive constructive criticism, pretend it's all some sort of tragedy, and then you martyr yourself. It's a pattern we won't continue to tolerate.

But I guess there is some undefined rx7 club version of fighting with a mod that I'm not aware of. Will likely be banned and my comments sensored like the above.
We've been very clear, and you willfully fail to understand. Sounds like you need a break, anyways.

Edit: 1 point, 24 hour infraction issued. You can come back tomorrow with a corrected attitude.

If you still can't figure it out we will consider perma banning your account. You're proving to be one of a handful of members who refuse to respect this forum, its rules, and the member-mods trusted to maintain it.

Our apologies to downtempo for the distraction.

Do you have a nice photo to share of your CYM? Has the car been relatively trouble-free for you? Do you normally work on the car or have a specialist work on it? Have you taken it to any car events - cars & coffee, SevenStock, etc...? Have you made any epic journeys in your car?

For example, I am the second owner of my 94 MB. Like a marriage, 'till death do us part! We've been from sea to shining sea and points in between. Been to DGRR twice with a few more trips on the horizon.

I wish you the best of luck either way - keep it or sell it. It may be preaching to the choir but enjoy every moment behind the wheel or under the hood!

I don't frequent the forums often, but to give you an idea on pricing, I bought my all stock CYM with 21K miles earlier this year for $38K.
