CYM vs. CYM?

Why do some CYM painted cars look different from others? Example:

(One on the left)

AND

OR

AND

What's the difference?

(Sorry if I used your car and I wasn't supposed to)

I don't think the top pic right FD is a real one because of the 99 spec wheel and spoiler with aolder model front end.... I can't be for sure....the rest i think is a lighting issue

The FD on the right is in Sunburst Yellow.

Anyone know if this is CYM?

cym is a 3 stage paint just like vintage red, over time the pearl in cym fades, so it looks mustard, vintage red uses a toner instead of pearl, over time the toner gets pinkish. i use to paint cars

True. It also depends what kind of lighting is around when the car or picture of the car is used. The CYM is a cool color and in different lighting shows the 3 different shades. Its one thing to see pictures of it, and another to stand next to it and see it in person.

The 2nd gen isn't a real CYM, since they didn't ever come CYM.

Just because a car is yellow doesn't mean it's CYM.

Those pictures all have different lighting, thats why

The first pic , the one on the left is CYM, the other is the 99 spec color, sunburst yellow.

I think the FC/FD picture looks like the same color to me. And that is def. CYM on both of those

Re: CYM vs. CYM?

The car on the right is the limited edition 1996 RX-7 RS-R model painted a different yellow than CYM.

Kinda amusing that people are referring to it as a 99 spec color and a 99 spec wheel when the car was made in 1996

So if you own a CYM (and I don't) and your paint is wearing out, is it possible to get new paint that is CYM, or will it just be yellow? i.e., can anyone reproduce CYM today?

Yes, you can buy CYM from ppg.. it is kinda expensive because you have to shoot it like 3 times..

1 base coat
2 top coat
3 clear coat

Yea I know! If you look close enough, you can tell that spoiler is the '96-'99 spec

While that front lip spoiler is the r1 naturally . So yeah that must be a repainted yellow rx-7. What yellow I can not say, but it's pretty darn close to sunburst yellow.
