Well it looks like my air pump has died, but the car drives like crap now, its really jerky at low RPM and the 3k hesitation has gotten real bad are these normal issues when a air pump goes bad? Also if I want to remove the air pump and get a pully set then I need to get a mid pipe and if I get a mid pipe then I need to get a new ECU like the PFC and if I get the midpipe with the PFC I'll still probaly get boost spikes right? and is it easy to correct boost spikes with a pill and not having to port the wastegate?

undo the connection at the top of the airpump..it's electrical, it won't let the clutch engage so your car won't turn on the airpump, it will just spin and do nothing

The problem with open exhaust is usually boost "creep". Boost spikes you can usually control with adding the Home Depot Boost control.

Take a look at the following thread for options on controlling boost creep:

Keep in mind, that not all cars experiece boost creep/spikes (for one reason or another). So you may not have any bad effects from an open exhaust, but it never hurts to be prepared for what you might need to do to control it.

Thanks for the info guys, but is a bad idle being caused by the faulty air pump?

I wouldn't worry about the pump, I would worry about the cat getting gumed up with unburn't gases. Does the pump still work without the elecerical connection? My advice: get a pulley kit.

Yes, the stock ECU expects the air pump to be there. If the air pump is disconnected or not functioning, then your idle will be bad (it will feel like the car is going to die).

so what about when you get a Pulley Kit? How do you stablize the ilde? ECU?

I just installed my greddy pulley kit and now it fluctuates badly at idle. Will plugging the pipe that the airpump connects too help? It blows air out and does not suck air in. I put my hand over it to cover it and it smoothened out the idle. Thanks!

I McGyver'd the airpump's tube connection (to the Cat')with duct tape and the tube on the air filter holder thing/pipe/dealabob (that connects to the air pump). The air pump is removed, using a Greddy pulley kit and belt from K2RD. I noticed a bad idle at first but now it's normal. I don't know how much i'm shortening the life of the Cat'.

so you just blocked off the pipe and your idle is fine? I guess I will try that tomorrow. Do you have an upgraded ecu?

I think it took a week for the idle to go back to normal. I'm not sure if reseting the ECU is the fix (maybe the new O2 sensor) but I don't have idle problems (exempt maybe a stumble or two when cold) anymore. I also pluged/covered the hole to the air filter that previously had the rubber tube going to the air pump. Yes, I have a Pettit ECU.

quick question. since my airpump's electrical connection is already disconnected would eliminating the airpump with the greddy pulley kit do anything to my idle?
