R.I.P. to my fd

Well, there is one less RX-7 out there on the roads today.

My pristine all-original 93' in Magenta Blue with 64K miles is not so pristine any more and it won't be racking up any more miles.

The front passenger side wheel is a full 12" further back than where is should be, the body and pan is buckled throughout, and the spaghetti that used to occupy the engine bay is now much more compressed spaghetti.

I count myself as SERIOUSLY blessed.

I was knocked unconscious and banged up a little bit, but somehow I stayed in the cockpit and came out all in one piece. - More than I can say for the car.

That’s unfortunate, but as long as you are ok you can always look for another FD.

Glad you're ok. Sorry to hear about the FD but like someone else said, there are others to be had. I know it won't be the same but they will get you close.

Ooof that was a bad hit!
Best wishes on a speedy recovery! I've been recovering from a concussion for 3 weeks now. Brain injuries are an odd thing to deal with.

Someone ran a stop sign on the county road. Never even saw him until he was literally filling my field of view. Didn't even have time to break or swerve.

You are lucky to be telling the story. Good thing you are ok. Condolences you lost your Fd, though.

Glad to hear that you're doing alright. Just curious as to how fast you were traveling when the accident occurred? Did your air bags deploy? Again, sorry about your accident, but glad to hear that you're doing okay.

Police get involved? Jail time is in order for whoever demolished this endangered species.

P.S. Glad you're ok.

Yikes, let us know how insurance goes. I keep insurance on my car but i have a feeling the insurance company will screw me over if something like this were to ever happen to me.

That's why we get specialty insurance like Hagerty, Grundy etc. There's a few threads on the topic if you want to search for them.

Sorry to hear that, I'm glad you're OK, that's key!

I would look at buying the car back from insurance and parting it out or using parts from it to fix up your next FD. Looks like you have a nice interior and hopefully the drivetrain is good if you can bend the car out of the way to get to it.

Not exactly sure how fast I was going on that country road. Maybe 60 or 70 ish if I had to guess.

The airbag did deploy and I was wearing my seatbelt, so I basically did a textbook test of a crash-test dummy.

I've badmouthed government mandated automobile safety requirements before, but I feel certain that I owe my life to them in this case.

A friend of mine just crashed his 2018 Corolla. Some guy took a left in front of him while he was doing about 35mph and there was no avoiding it.
The car is totaled, he hit his head on the steering wheel hard enough to make it bleed, No airbag deployed. Weird.

Anyway, glad yours did and glad you're OK.

Same exact thing happened to me. It sucked. People just don't pay attention and it's like russian roulette whenever you get to an intersection when there's no hard red left turn arrow, and even then....

I hope so too.

Been looking at all my options, but nothing quite compares with an FD.

Yep. To make matters worse there are the new flashing left turn arrows around here which make people think it's about to turn red and they better get through fast before the light changes! They showed up on intersections around here without explanation and actually mean you can turn left if there is no oncoming traffic. I have seen more than one person turn left in front of traffic due to this idiotic change.
