Hey all, quick question. I purchased a Rotary Extreme V-mount, and was wondering what supports the bottom of the IC? The top portion mounts to where the hood latch area is. However, I couldn't find anything included with all the v-mount stuff that supports the bottom of the IC. Is there a stock bracket it attaches to that i'm missing? If so, i don't think that i saw it. . . .

The radiator and everything else fits just perfectly fine. . . . it's securing the bottom of the v-mount that i'm having issues with. Or is it supported simply by the top tab that mounts to where the hood latch is (which doesn't seem right by my account). I searched last night while I was in and out of the garage, but no posts/threads had any details that I could find. Thanks in advance for your input!

it bolts on the top by the hood latch(2---10mm bolts)

and the back just sits on top of the rad.

I sorta was thinking that it may, but i plan on tracking my car, and the bottom of the IC rubbing on the rad from the constant vibrations, i'd thing it would have a very adverse effect on either one of the two though over time. . . no?

Of course, if i'm wrong i do stand humbly corrected. I definitely appreciate your advice Brad, and any tips you can give!

 

i thought the same thing ...after the couplers are on and everything is tight ...it doesn't seem to move...

when i put mine back together ..i was thinking about putting something in between the rad. and ic ...slice a hose or something ...mainly to try to keep some of the heat transfer from the rad. to the ic down...
really don't know what im going to use yet...

Well when i installed mine, i had a small gap between the radiator and the intercooler. I just put some strips of weatherstripping to seal it. It should just be held up the the couplers and the top two bolts...

 

just give me the vmount and ill tell ya after i install lol

 

I'd be concerned about it. Aluminum isn't the most durable of metals when wear is concentrated at a single point...

 

i asked chuck about this when i got my vmount back in oct.
he told me its supposed to rest on top of it...

When/how did you order one.. I've been after Chuck since he closed.. I was 1 week late from getting him to make one for me.. From what I hear he's got some of the best made V-mounts for the FD

 

I once had the pipe for my FMIC rubbing slightly on my radiator. Within 6 months of hard driving, I had cracked the weld at the corner of the radiator where it was rubbing the pipe. Cost a pretty penny to fix.

 

With all due respect to Chuck, I disagree with the assumption that it's fine and there won't be any problems. While the IC may simply touch or barely rest upon the radiator when not running, and/or may feel solidly mounted, everything shifts around a lot more than people think while driving, even during daily use (it's the reason that the IC piping isn't just hard pipes with gasket connections). The constant rubbing of aluminum on any metal that is harder (which is, basically, everything else in the engine bay) will wear down the contact area a lot quicker than you think.

I'd put some sort of rubber or plastic between the IC and radiator to prevent metal/metal contact. Just my $0.02.

 

i agree....thats why im putting something in between the two...

just need to decide what im gonna use...

you have any pics of it installed with that bracket....

mine didnt come with it...but if it works my buddy works at a sign shop...
that has alum. sheets ...i'll have him make me one and maybe if anyone else needs one...
he made me my battery box...

It was ordered a while back ago, but never installed. i'm finally getting into the engine bay and installing the motor into my FD with a very great friend of mine.

Yea, i was feeling the same way. Plus i have solid motor mounts, and what not. I thought that alumi rubbing eachother would have a very bad effect after some time. thanks Kento!

Yea, i didn't get those two L backets. bleh, just when you think you've got it, there's always more fabrication needed for these cars, lol.

The Original (Pictured) "L" Brackets you see were actually recalled from chuck, because the welds on the sides didn't hold as well as expected, so he re-inforced the welds and re-sent them to custumers that had bought the kit from him...

So I'd make sure that the welds were strong... unfortunately I no longer have the V-Mount, just the pictures maybe the person I sent it to reads this and will send some pictures of it intsalled.

 

Ok, i have Chuck's vmount and in for few years. i track it.

So, i use that grip tape people use for stairs and such (it is all rubber, not the kind with sand or other abrasives). I adhered a 1" strip across the top the radiator so the two would not rub. After 3 years there are signs of wear but definately not throught the tape. So clearly i thought you needed something and it seals better as well. But the couples on the IC hold it pretty steady, track events included, so i wouldn't bother another bracket.

I did however leave my AC condensor on and i think it is causing some blocked flow and higher temps at the track, so i have been considering removing it. food for thought. At the last track event i put spacers in between the A/C con and Raditor so i get direct flow, so it is a little different now.

how does that tape hold up to the heat...
i was thinking weather striping ...but not to sure if it can handle the heat...

holds up fine, 3 years. Given it is mostly under compression from the weight the adhesive does not need to do that much. But as i said this the stuff people use on stairs and boat trailers.

mine is grey, and all rubber, not the black ones with the 'sandpaper' like texture
