Quick question! Transmission bolts

I have a 93 rx7. I'm about to pull the transmission and was wondering how many bolts are there holding the bell housing to the motor. I count 5 and read up which mentions 5 but there appears to be two on the top. The issue I see is that I only have only one on top. I'm assuming the shop never installed the last bolt out of laziness??

Thanks!

5 is my recollection without looking at the FSM. Two are close together on top. One near the oil filter and the other two at about 4 and 8 o’clock. IIRC one is longer than the others. And you need some long extensions and a U-joint for the uppers. Nothing unique about them (M14x1.25 maybe?) so it shouldn’t be hard to replace the one that’s missing. You just want it the correct length…not too long.

edit… this might help showing the two on top…

the top top bolt goes in the other way, and uses a nut. helps to locate the trans when you're installing it.

Should be 5 bolts, longer one on the bottom, and then the sixth is the bolt with a nut that goes to the starter.

The only bolt that has a nut that I see is the one that goes behind the starter. All others are bolts only.

Yep. There are dowel sleeves to help locate the transmission but that starter to housing bolt is the only one I know of that takes a nut.

Can someone confirm the length and pitch for the top bolt? Not the one closest to the turbo side.

I just happen to have the bolts out…appears to be M10x1.25, and the short bolts are 55mm shoulder to tip. Long bolt is 90mm shoulder to tip

McMaster Carr would be a good place to check on-line. Otherwise if you have a Grainger store in your area. My local Westlake Ace is pretty good source too.

I’ve never measured. I think trident above took care of that for you. A millimeter or two short wouldn’t probably be a huge deal. But I would’nt go longer.

Yes I saw that. Just that searching for 55mm long bolt puts me in a European market. Thanks

Metric threads are probably going to come in metric length.
Looks like 55 mm is a hair over 2 inches.
90 mm is 3.5 inches.

this online shop saved me many times; highly recommended, especially for small quantity and a lot of specialty variations for custom stuff:

Thanks! I see they only have a 50 mm for tge 55mm bolt that I need. I'm assuming that 5mm shorter won't matter?

I don't think it will matter, especially if you use that one shorter bolt up top where you have two bolts relatively close together around the bell housing. With a 1.25mm thread pitch, that 5mm shorter bolt means you'll only have 4 fewer threads digging in, but depending on how deep that threaded hole is on the rear iron, you probably got at least a dozen or so threads digging in if the hole is at least 15mm deep.

ISO 10.9 flanged with 13mm hex in both 55mm & 90mm in yellow zinc:
https://belmetric.com/m10-coarse-iso...ku=BFI10X55YLW

OE may have been 14mm hex, been a while since I messed with one

JIS 10.9 flanged with 14mm hex, 50mm or 60mm (my choice) and 90mm in yellow or silver zinc:
