Question Quick question about RX-7 models

Sorry if this question has been asked before (and i have been looking for it on the forums.)

But is there a major difference between the 93-95 models and the 96-02 models?

Because from i got off this site: http://www.re4life.com/Import_RX7/Im...0the%20USA.htm

Is that the newer models drive better? Is this true can any one confirm this?

(i think they mean factory tuned right?)

Because if i were to buy a 94 model and tune it the same way as a 02 model....would a notice a difference?

short answer is yes, the 96+ are different.

the 96-97 cars get a bunch of "reliability" mods, better IC piping, ecu is better. they are still 265hp, no precat.

the 98-02 cars in particular got a faster ecu, different intake/ic ducting, better oil metering, a much better vacuum system for the turbos. the upper models get a better exhaust and turbos, for 280hp, instead of 265.

they also get different a spring/shock combo. they had a 17" wheel option, with larger brake rotors.

so basically a bunch of tweaks.

OP,

this might help you out.

http://www.rx7.net.nz/fd-jp-models.html

Unless you're a diehard collector or find a japanese longblock, i wouldn't bother trying to re-create a 1999 spec model other than the looks department if that's your thing. There are many reliability and power solutions that don't require sourcing rare and expensive OEM parts from Japan.

Then again I would yeild to Supernaught on that issue as he's probably gone more hardcore in his quest to make a Spirit-R than anyone i've ever known.

But it wouldnt matter if i were to get like a 1995 model and tune it on my own right? :s

Right it was all factory stuff. If you build a car it does not matter what year it came from, the chassis are the same. Im not 100% sure but they might have added some small options or something to higher end models chassis wise, but I don't think so. Im also talking about strictly the chassis not the suspension or any thing, like previously stated suspension was tuned on some models from mazda.

Those don't apply to the USA models. Read the buyers guide (which is found in the FAQ) for the USA model information:
