I am tearing everything down from the longblock to a shortblock while the motor is in the car. I have everything pretty much off except the turbo system(T04R) which will be out tomorrow, motor mounts, and the clips on the oil lines. The manifolds and fuel system is out, I have the hook on the engine that I can attach the hoist to. Can I lift the engine just using that hook or would it be better to attach the manifolds and also use the hook on the UIM. Just a quick question looking for a simple answer... not looking to get flamed.

Would of liked to go bridgeport but I am staying with a PFC for a few more months. I have talked to people about it, and just seems more practical just to get a radical streetport rather a bridge.

 

There should be two hooks to grab the engine with... You can see a good shot of them here:

I was just wondering if there was anyway to just use the front hook since my manifolds are off. It's no problem I will just re attach my manifolds when I get a engine hoist.

I wouldn't use just one point for hoisting. You'll loose the ability for load balancing. You can just hook up the LIM and then use some washers and a nut onto one of the studs were the UIM would rest.

 

Nope, the hook will bend in half. As a last resort you could use a stud on the lower intake manifold where the upper bolts up.

 

It's no problem ill just pull out my fuel system from my LIM after I pull out the turbo system and re attach the manifolds.

The whole wiring harness is unplugged except for the one thats on the transmission.
I am just interested in taking a look at my T04R to see if there is any damage to it. I took off the downpipe and looked at it I believe I seen a bent fin on the turbo.

I really don't know how it blew my temps were fine, vacuum was good, was running great. Tuned for 15psi and was boosting 14psi at the time the REMAN had 30k on it, I don't think it should of died this soon, guess it was a tuning issue.

Oh well stock ports were limiting me anyway, was planning on having it ported eventually. Guess now is the time!

 

i always use the rear top tranny bolt hole that has the tread and the front driver side treaded hole to hoist the engine.

 

Sure is a few different ways... I think I could get the tranny bolts off in my driveway, since my manifolds are off n everything on the drivers side is off as well. I shall see, today the turbo system is coming out so I can inspect the exhaust turbine and see if there was any apex seal damage.

 

I just removed the turbo system... Exhaust turbine looks good as new, and the e-bay manifold that came with my RX7store T04R turbo kit has 0 cracks and looks fine...

The manifold had 5000 miles of abuse....

 

Here is my attempt at polishing my UIM + LIM. I did the UIM differently as you can tell from the picture. I like how they both look, but I will do some touching up on them. The alternator n throttle body are next on the list.

 

Use a load leveler (about $30.00 at Harbor Freight) as well it not only allows you to balance the engine so it doesn't snag on anything but it distributes the load much more evenly between the two hooks minimizing the risk that there fastener bots will break (I know this from experience).

 

Thank you for the input PhD, I think I should be able to get all the trans bolts off since its down to just the block now. Would be nicer not to pull the trans but will find out.

Note... I am doing this all in the dirt in my driveway so it's not so much fun. Wish I had a garage.

 

Well took a closer look at the turbo... the inlet turbine scrapped the sideway only on a section of the wall guess that happened when the seal decided to leave its home. Rebuilds run around 500 from what I have seen and the wheel looks a little worn out. I will post pictures of it in a few minutes...

 

You can see where the wheel on the intake turbine scraped the wall... Also what my engine bay looks like right now...

 

Any inputs on my turbo?

 

Checked it out some more looks normal was freaked out for a little bit

 

The damage will be on the exhaust side. Did you remove the housing to inspect the entire turbine wheel? You won't know for sure until you do this.

 

Guess I will do that later, don't mind right now... I am about to head to pepboy's n see if they have a engine hoist for sale. It's raining today but I want this done! I think I can get all the trans bolts with no problems, unbolt the starter, mounts, and unbolt the oil lines then pull this thing that ressembles a giant coke can. Then onto removing the ac and ps lines and order a few parts for the build.

 

Yay... just have to take out the pressure plate bolts and oil lines then take out the motor.

 

you may wanna try dropping the engine from underneith? i dont know how you're gonna do this though :/

 

Look at the picks its simple to pull it from the top, and I am doing this in my driveway. I dont have a garage or lift
