Quick Oil Pressure Question...

Alright, when the car idles where should the oil pressure gauge (stock) sit? I don't remember it sitting at 0, but that is where it is sitting, and when I am driving, it is sitting at zero. Unless I boost, then it moves up to about 30-40 lb/in² and if i full out floor it, it will hit 120 lb/in². I was curious if I am not getting proper oil pressure, I dont want to run the car if there isn't any oil circulating, just curious if the gauge is where it is supposed to be.

Thanks

Oil pressure should not be 0 while the car is running (no matter idle or in motion).

The sensors tend to clog up on our cars. It shouldn't be at zero during idle.

Check the factory manual and ohm test the sensor. The manual will tell you what spec it should be within.

If the sensor checks out ok, then you will have to diagnose the gauge and somewhere inbetween it wouldn't hurt to get an external oil pressure gauge to plug into the stock sensor location to check to be certain of your pressure.

But like I said, usually it's just the sensor.

There should be some way to force a search function before allowing a post to go through.

If the sensor was at fault, would the engine still be getting the correct amount of oil flow? Or does the sensor regulate how much oil is being put though? (i.e. if the sensor was clogged, the oil pressure wouldn't be nominal)

Is this the case?
Thanks,

It is just the gauge sender. Basically the sender that responds to oil pressure in the system stops responding to lower amounts of oil pressure (such as at idle, etc.). If you clean the sender, it will work reliably again. This gauge sender will in no way affect your true oil pressure.

Whatever happened with your PFC troubles?

The pressure at idle whent the car is warm is usually close to zero, maybe 1-2 mm above zero.

At cold startup, the pressure is pretty high around 75 or so, more than 1/2 way up.
