Quick Airbox Question!

I am helping a friend of mine fix a few vac leaks and boost leaks on his 1992 JDM FD3S.

I have looked in the FSM and cant seem to find what hose this large nipple hooks on to. Its the large nipple on the right side of the airbox (if your looking into the engine bay from the front). Here is a picture of the large nipple in question.

I dont know why but my paint wouldnt show colors for some reason.. Its the nipple in the greyish circle with the arrow pointing at it.

Thanks guys,

Ben

the one thats on the side of the box i believe goes to some kind of charcol thingy.. most FDs didnt come with them. it basicly just something in the mold and yes its suppose to be open.

The JDM fd's had a hose that was open to the atmosphere from that nipple. Drops below the air box, so leaving it not connected to anything should be just fine.

If you pull the top of the airbox off and look at the routing for that nipple it feeds the air pump i believe, it is seperated fromt all other nipples on the airbox except for one.

I had the same question here:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=airbox

Basically, it just redirects the air-pump pulses below and outside the airbox so you minimize hearing the "mooing" on the passenger side.

As gracer pointed out, it's just for the "mystery hose", which serves to muffle the air pump discharge. If people don't know what it is for, perhaps they shouldn't post!

Hmm open to atmosphere huh... weird. I guess the boost leak is somewhere else.

Thanks a lot for the info guys,

Ben
