Questions about radiator caps.

So I deleted my ast. For those who don't agree with it IDC. Anyways I had this problem in the past and have seen it come up several times on this forum. After shut down from a warm running engine my coolant fills the overflow tank till it leaks a bit causing it to lose coolant and I get the annoying buzzer here and there. I'm positive its the radiator cap. I used the one provided with the new neck (FC) and the problems I believe are coming from that cap. I looked up the pressure rating for the cap and it was 13psi. I wanna know y the fc has a 13lbs cap and the 93 uses a 16lbs then the 94 and 95 model list a 13lbs cap? I'm a bit confused y its like that. I checked auto zones website and oriellys and its the same. I'm goona switch back to my 16lb cap.

13psi is the right one, I'm using that one with the delete kit and I don't have any overflow issue. I would pressure test the cap and your coolant system to make sure everything is ok.

Cooling System

Read the first paragraph. There was a recall to get rid of the 1.3 bar caps and a .9 bar cap is to be run. Mind you this is with an AST still installed. Because I have not deleted my AST, I am unaware if you are required to run a different cap.

Hmmm interesting. I'm goona try my old cap on my busted ast and report back. I'm pretty sure it was the 16lbs cap that was on there.

The old cap could be 16psi if the recall was not done on your car.

Well the car has had major upgrades since the recall I'm sure the coolant system wouldn't cause a fire in my case. I run a full alum radiator in a v mount setup.

I had the same problem on my car with the overflow bottle. I have an ast but the problem wasnt the caps it was the hose going to the overflow. The hose was old and it would only let coolant go into the tank but would not suck the coolant back out of the tank so it would overfill. Check that hose and the others for old ones replace as necessary.

That symptom is also for bad water seals which causes extra pressure in the cooling system.
If your coolant has many very fine bubles in it, your seals are shot.

It doesn't matter which cap you use LOL...

Either your cap is bad or your coolant seals are going, very simple.

Understood my car is fine now after switching caps. My old cap was a 13lbs cap. The cap I used with the neck must have been shot.
