Question for you ghetto mod/fabricators

I bought my 93 Touring a couple of months ago with the Mazdaspeed 15th Anniversary nose already installed by the previous owner.

The ducts for the oil cooler(s) are larger than the factory ducts and there is no shroud or anything in place right now. I'd like to make some kind of ducting or shroud so that the air coming in through those holes gets directed to the oil cooler and maybe even fab up some brake ducts.

However, I'm not sure of what kind of material to use to make such a shroud. The aluminum stuff I used for my intake and IC seems too unflexible to fit the contours of the opening and the oil cooler.

What do you guys suggest for the oil cooler shroud? What about brake ducts? Post pics if you can as it would help me greatly. Thanks.

you can use any thing to make the ducts but to fit the contours get a rivit gun and a tire intertube and rivit it to the duct to fit the contours.

I used roof flashing from home depo and a intertube from the auto parts store.

how bout a pic? I used the flashing on my intercooler duct and intake, but I don't see how thats going to work for this.

The opening in the nose is about 6"x5" and the oil cooler is about 10"x6". I can't visualize how the flashing will work. I played with the AL flashing for a while and its awkward to fit into those dimensions.

Doesn't get any more ghetto than this: I used thick rubber mat that is used for outdoor steps, from OSH or Home Depot. It's in big rolls that you can get cut by the foot. It's pliable enough to form around the oil cooler, mounts, and feed connections, and easy to cut so that you can form it around said obstructions and the duct. But it's thick enough so that when I pop-riveted the duct portion, and zip-tied the portion covering the oil cooler, that it holds together and seals just fine. Airflow goes over the entire oil cooler assembly, you can't really notice it unless you look underneath the car, and it cost about $5.00 total and an hour's worth of labor.

Use some sheet metal and some foil tape. The foil tape is pretty sticky and can be contoured to fit.

Why not use some ABS plastic and a heat gun?

Kento - I think that would be perfect! Never thought of using that.

Fiberglass, I don't have the skills or tools for that.

I tried the AL and it was difficult to get it contoured properly.

Me thinks I have a solution Thanks fellas.

Sounds pretty good in my opinion. Its pretty loud, but not obnoxious and is responsive. I was pleasantly surprised a couple of days ago when I was taking a series of quick turns and doing some quick heel-toe downshifts from 4-2 and I kept hearing it blowing off. It put a big grin on my face
