Question on a RX-7 purchase.

Hello everyone, I am pretty familiar with this site but just registered to ask a question. I am considering purchasing a RX-7, this is probably the first small car that I will be driving so I would like some advice on how I should maintain the car during the winter, I live in Canada so the winters are really harsh, I wanted to know if a car that is 1992 will start properly in the winter, and also if there are any splash/guards near the wheel I can purchase to protect the body paint. I also wanted to know if its safe to drive in winter. The RX-7 I am considering to buy is FWD, not sure if there are any FWD but this one is. Thanks a lot in advance everyone!

There are no FWD RX-7s. I'm not sure how one could ever be converted to fwd (the engine layout is all wrong) much less why such a thing would ever be attempted. You don't want to be driving a 3rd gen in winter anyway, since they have so much power for so little weight. In snow tires an experienced driver could get around ok, but you'll still be stuck in anything more than couple inches of snow due to the low ground clearance.

I suggest you research further and stay away from 3rd gens if you want an all-year round car.

First, I would stay away from anybody who is going to try to sell you a FWD RX-7...

Simple Winter maintenance: park it in your garage, leave it there until it's nice out again. Have another car ready to drive in inclement weather.

(In addition to your standard winterization proceedures) Give it a very good washing before hand, get a nice solid coat of wax/protectant on there as well. If you do drive it around in the winter you may want to be mindful of spraying out the wheel wells/underbody on a fairly regular basis to keep the salts from the road effecting your car too much.

I don't know....

OK.
I live in Hamilton, Ontario and it's nowhere nearly as bad as your area around here.
Let me say, together with everyone else here, that if you do have a FWD RX7, we HAVE TO SEE THE PHOTOS!
Although, I really don't think you'll be able to provide imgese of such a vehicle...
Second, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DRIVE THIS CAR IN THE CANADIAN WINTER?
Maybe I'm out there, but it is a disgrace to do that. Salt and slush on what is and always will be a fantastic car? If you cannot have another car for the winter here in Canada, then just buy something else.
And, yes, you'll get stuck pretty much at any time there are more than 2 inches of snow.

"pretty familiar with this site" ... I knew this was gonna be a noob post after reading those words, but the "fwd rx7" has to be up there on the top 10 list.

Seriously, if you or anyone else had spent 10 mins in the FAQ that is stickied at the top of this thread, thus being "pretty familiar" ... you would know there ARE NO FWD RX7's and if this one in question has been rebuilt as such, then indeed my grandmother was right and someday, cows would fly to the moon.

Have fun !!!!

Thanks for the advice, Fendamonky do you just spray with normal water? I was planning to buy some splash guards for this car but I guess im just going to drive it when its nice out. Just finished the deal today, oh btw here is the AD that says FWD for all you people out there. The guy prob doesn't know the car well and im not too familiar with it too, so I just assumed what he said. Its a sweet *** car! Think 16000 is a bit much?

26000 KM is good, but 92 JDM RX-7s are very cheap...you could probably find one for well under the $17k asking price.

And they are just wrong about it being FWD.

hmmm, yeah it would be pretty cheap if I buy it elsewhere but locally the prices are around the same for where I live. It doesn't look like a 1992, the headlights are different and the spoiler is too, makes it look like one of those 2002 ones, paint is in excellent condition, too, I can't wait until I get this car licensed and take it out for a spin!

That front bumper is a 99spec front end. Those are not headlights, they are combo lights(parking lights and turn signals). The rims and wing are both aftermarket, so it's really a tough call. I'd say take it for a test drive and check the VIN plate for the year.

I'm afraid that's exactly what will happen. Be careful.
